Week 3 :: of improvisation and mad skillz

Hullo, my friends!

Congratulations to us for surviving the week.  I don’t know about you, but this week was fraught with sleepless nights, high drama and the daily minutiae that just seems to compound exponentially and become one big monstrous ball of suck.  My only saving grace has been my foray into the wild and wooly world of polka dots.  Not only did all my outfits earn positive comments all around, I find myself getting more and more comfortable in front of the camera.  I also feel accomplished because I challenged myself to make bold choices (Wednesday) and to go beyond mimicry and do more interpretation (Thursday).

To round off my terrific week of polka dot panache, then, I stepped up my casual Friday vibe with this ensemble.

I was debating whether or not to crop off her head because she’s just too darned cute for words, but I figure it’s all about the outfit and not the face, right?  My sweater is unstructured and almost sloppy because I bought it one size larger – I like my knitwear baggy – but I’d like to think that the deep blue of my chambray shirt elevates the aesthetic.  Ditto the popped-up collar and last-minute addition of neck bling.

I hadn’t thought to do the half-tuck until I’d arrived at work, and since I couldn’t pull a belt out of my purse like I did my necklace, I had to make do with blousing the material over to suggest the idea of a belt without actually having to have one present.  Rust-colored skinnies (mine really are in person; I swear!) and my fave cognac boots are pretty much a carbon copy (do people even now what that means anymore?) of the inspiration pic and I don’t know if I feel proud that I was able to replicate exactly or sad that I couldn’t think to inject my own flavor into the mix.  Then again, why fix it if it ain’t broke, right?

Here’s hoping that next week is a better one for me.  I know the upcoming theme promises to be a doozy.  Happy trails, my friends!  Make good choices.

  1. It’s cute put together! I saw you had a lighter chambray shirt in your closet, thought you’d wear that. I love the jeans. Remember next week is gonna be hot, hot, hot!

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
