Week 4 :: of arsenic and old lace

Okay, not that I’m intimating that I’m an old lady.  And not that I’m suggesting offing anyone anytime soon.  But today’s look was just begging for the above title.  (And if you’re not familiar with the allusion, my friends, you are sadly missing out and need to Netflix the movie right quick.)

Anyhow, when I spotted the inspiration look on Pinterest, I knew I had a winner because, once again, I had the exact same items in my closet ready for the duping.  Unfortunately, I’d already worked the taupe maxi into another outfit and, rather than break that one up, I thought to use my remix magic and put my own spin on this ensemble instead.

Because, really, how can you go wrong with a lace top/maxi combo?  You can’t.  The only decision that needed to be made was which maxi to pair the top with.  As mentioned previously, I have an unhealthy number of these skirts at my disposal, so I played around with pink then yellow then navy blue.  But there was just something stunning about the green.  Perhaps because it’s so close to St. Paddy’s Day.  Perhaps it’s because I have very few green pieces in my wardrobe and this stood out.  Perhaps I was subconsciously wanting to use today’s title (yes, I know arsenic is traditionally grey in color but it’s a poison and in my mind, poisons are green. Just roll with it).

Regardless, I present to you, my friends, today’s maxi outfit.

I really love how the black faux leather trim around the collar of my top plays nicely with the black of my belt.  Speaking of belts, I also love how this skirt is cut in such a way that my wearing a waist-cinching stretch belt doesn’t distort my silhouette.  (Digression and true story: on Monday, my mom took me out to lunch and I casually mentioned it was my female time and she said “No wonder you look bloated.”  Ahahahaha!  Only my mom can make me laugh rather than cry with that kind of a statement, but it did make me slightly self-conscious about the rest of my maxi outfits.)

The shoes are a metallic silver ballet flat because a) I didn’t want to go matchy-matchy with black shoes and b) I need to give this pair one more college try before chucking them.  They were super uncomfy when I wore it the first time; let’s see if I’d managed to break it in enough.  The jury is still out as of this writing.

I was going to save this necklace for Statement Necklace Week but it was too good to pass up, what with the green and all.  It may be a bit too much, competing with the lace of the top, but I wanted a bit more oomph to the look and one of my fave bloggers always dresses up her looks with bold necklaces so I was just following suit.

What do you think?  Yea to the embellishment or is lace its own embellishment and I should’ve nixed the necklace?
