Week 7 :: of happy places and post-holiday blues

This week went by too fast.

Perhaps it’s because I scheduled every single day with events that took me out of the house and kept me busy.  Perhaps it’s just been one of those years and I simply don’t want to go back to work.  Perhaps there’s a rift in the space/time continuum and today really ought to be Monday and the start of my spring break.

Yeah.  I wish.

As it is, I think I might need a vacation from my vacation.   I probably ought to have penciled in at least one sleep-until-noon-and-lounge-around-in-my-jammies day.  That way, I would’ve been able to enjoy a true “break”.

Ah, hindsight!  You are forever 20/20!

To commemorate this last day of official bliss, then, I give you A Happy Place.

Yes, the inspiration pic is not sporting a graphic tee, but I liked the juxtaposition of tough (army jacket) and soft (flippy skirt) so I just did a couple of mods to the look.  The only orange flippy skirts I own have prints on them, and since I didn’t want anything to compete with the tee, I decided to dupe the shape rather than the color.  My army jacket is less structured than hers, but is practically the same shade so on it went.

So…A Happy Place.  The whimsy of the picture drew me to it and the elephant won me over.  The splashes of orange were the icing on the cake.  The only thing that would’ve made this tee a true winner was if it had been white instead of beige.  Beggars can’t be choosers, though, and I bet you wouldn’t even have noticed had I not pointed it out.

Although you can’t see the model’s feet in the inspiration photo, I bet she’s wearing sandals.  I could’ve chosen some wedges for my look but the skirt is already this close to being scandalously short, so I decided to tone it down with these bejeweled flats instead.  Since I’m going to be doing a lot of walking with KS#2 today, I think I made a wise choice.

I hope you all enjoyed Graphic Tee Week as much as I did.  I especially enjoyed the fact that I was able to take my time staging all these photos and experimenting with poses and props.

From a wardrobe perspective, I think I showed that you can be both casual and fashionably fun even on off days.  And for those of you who aren’t mandated to be professionally dressed during the week, I hope I’ve given you some ideas for everyday wear that can easily be duped with items from your own wardrobe.

Happy weekend, my friends!  Make good choices!

  1. A very cute look. I really like the tees with skirts. Something I never would have thought of…
Hope you had fun today on your mission.

    • Community Thrift is about the same as Goodwill price-wise but they have A LOT more selection and are super organized. The cash-only thing didn’t stop me from picking up a few key pieces to fill out some holes in my closet but I didn’t get near the deals I did at American Way. All the things I wanted were green tag, of course the only color not 50% off. 😦

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
