Week 8 :: of grey and black and challenges all over

The fog comes
on little cat feet.

It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.

When I think of grey, invariably that Carl Sandburg poem comes tiptoeing into my mind.  It must be the line about little cat feet.

But really, there’s just something supremely silent and stealthy about grey. You could almost call it ninja. However, it is not as threatening or domineering as its cousin, black.

Grey smirks while black sneers. Grey whispers while black barks. Grey is the waltz; black is the tango.

And yet these two dichotomous colors – or are they shades? – tend to gravitate toward each other, especially in fashion. They look particularly fetch in leopard print.  Now, I was doing some research – I seem to be doing that a lot for this week’s theme – and there is such a thing as a grey leopard.  Their coats aren’t as saturated as my pants, though, so I guess grey is to leopard print as pink is to camo, YKWIS?

The inspiration pic utilized only four key items, all of which I had in my closet.  It’s actually starting to shame me, how exactly I can replicate looks from total strangers.  This reminds me most tellingly that my closet is vast and my clothes legion.

I need to stop shopping.

Then again, this was an easy challenge from KS#1.  I mean, it really only is a white tunic, grey leopard skinnies, black lace up booties and a statement necklace.  Anyone can dupe this look.  The only potential obstacle could be the mint necklace, but I bet a scarf or another piece of jewelry would work as well.

Oh, have I mentioned that KS#1 cherry picked five looks from my Pinterest board for me to dupe this week?  Yep.  Crazy girl.  And crazy me for entertaining the idea that spawned from this collaboration.

Because, my friends, KS#1 came up with this suggestion: why not ask my readers to send me links of ensembles/outfits they’d like to see me recreate?  The more outlandish and expensive the better.

You see, KS#1 is an inveterate fashionista.  She knows where to get the best deals, when stores release their limited-time coupons, which members-only online boutique offers exclusive sales.  She’s me sans blog.

So even though she’s younger than I, when she talks, I listen.  And she says that what interests her the most is seeing how a high-end fashion spread from a mag like Mademoiselle would translate in real life with a real life budget.

What do I say?

Game on.

But I can’t do this without you, my friends.  I need you to send me links to photos that you’d like me to replicate with items from the vastness of my wardrobe.  I’ll pick five of my fave links and dupe the looks, giving you credit and kudos, of course.  Let’s see how long it’ll take or how insanely expensive or intricate an outfit has to be before I and my closet give up.

What say you?  You in?  You can either leave the links in the comments box below or, if you’ve got a Pinterest account, tag me [@Maricel Edwards].  I’ll keep the challenge open indefinitely, so if I didn’t choose your look one week, don’t despair.  Just keep ’em comin’ and I’ll try my darndest to accommodate.

I was getting tired of theme weeks anyway.
