Week 9 :: of KS#1, stripes and triple layers

Greetings and salutations, my friends!

(A virtual cookie to any reader who can identify which seminal 80s teen movie that particular line came from.)

And so we embark upon another fun-filled fiesta of fashion.  I am especially excited this week because this week marks the very first ever, KS#1-inspired, five-reader-participated, supermegafoxyawesomehot

My Closet Catalogue Challenge Week

[insert triumphant fanfare here]

If you’re just tuning in, Challenge Week is when people send me links of ensembles and/or outfits that they think I’d be able to dupe using nothing but the current contents of my closet.  No cheating allowed; that is, I can’t go out and purchase anything to recreate the look.

Some of you were very kind and submitted pics that were relatively easy to replicate.  Others really took the word “challenge” seriously and sent in some pretty outrageous looks.  (They did assure me that I was to use them more as inspiration rather than templates.)  One reader, a professed non-fashionista although I think she’s selling herself short – shout out to you, Kim! – sent me five links to five pieces of art at the LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) instead of clothing pics.  Such a brilliant concept that I’m gonna use them for their own week.

Regardless of what category you fell into, I want to say thanks so much for helping me out; without you guys, this week wouldn’t be possible!

Today, I’ll start Challenge Week duping a look from Del (a.k.a. KS#1) since the idea of Challenge Week came from her and what better way to honor her than to choose her suggestion first?

She actually sent numerous links that I immediately fell in love with, but I opted for this submission because I was feeling derivative and lazy on this chilly Monday morning and I had pretty much every element of this look in my closet.

challenge monday dupe

This was almost a true dupe, my friends, right down to the black purse I’m obviously using as a prop because there is no way in Hades I would normally carry a bag so tiny it couldn’t fit at least a paperback novel, a water bottle, a phone, a wallet and random beauty supplies.  But, if given my druthers and if I were to CTRL-Z this look in the future with all restrictions lifted, I’d go and buy a shirt with larger stripes and a pair of closed toe ankle strap D’orsay pumps so it’d be an exact clone of the challenge pic.

challenge monday

This unexpected cold snap makes me grateful for the three layers, something I normally wouldn’t choose for myself since I’m not waif-like but which works here because all the pieces are relatively thin in the fabric department.  My only issue is the whole sleeve scrunching thing – very challenging to do with multiple layers of varying sleeve lengths.  I may just give up entirely by day’s end and rid myself of one of the layers so I can pull up my sleeves comfortably.

I’m gonna pat myself on the back here for a successful first challenge.  Up tomorrow is one of Selah’s pics.  You can visit my Pinterest board and try to guess which ones of her submissions I picked.  Until then, here’s wishing everyone a good week and le mode heureuse!

P.S.  Forgive the indoor shots – florescent lighting is so awful! – but it’s so grey out, there was no difference in exterior and interior lighting today, and I didn’t want to go prancing about in the wet with these stilettos on.
