Week 12 :: of cookies, hazard signs and citron yellow

Wednesday.  Hump Day.  Middle of the Week Day.

What the Eff Am I Gonna Write Day.

As I sit here and contemplate words or my lack thereof, I chomp on a chocolate chip cookie.  I get this cookie every day from my co-worker, Mr. Math Teacher, who gets it every day from his lunch place of choice.  He eats at Panda Express and orders the kid’s meal, complete with cookie.  Every day.  I kid you not.

And that got me thinking: do I ever do something every day, without fail?  I’m not talking about the daily minutiae of living like eating, sleeping, bathroom-going or bathing.  I’m talking about a specific routine from which I do not deviate.

And I come up with nada.

This is good news for you, my friends because my refusal to fall into a rut means guaranteed variety, especially when it comes to clothing choices.  Oh sure, I may wear pieces more than once – mine is not the TARDIS of closets after all – but you can bet they’ll be reworked into different ensembles every time.

Take today’s offering for instance.

Mystery Wednesday

I know I’ve worn these pants at least three times this year already, but never with this yellow blazer.  Then again, perhaps there was a reason they never came together?  If it weren’t for my secret theme, I doubt I would have ever gone to work in this unholy pairing because right now, I’m feeling quite a bit like a hazard sign on the freeway.

I did bring a camel blazer in case I blinded my students and they begged for mercy, but upon further reflection, I have a feeling I am going to remain in my obnoxious outfit all day because I am a closet exhibitionist.  And really, don’t you honestly prefer the more audacious option over the safe thing?  Doesn’t it make you want to break out in song?  Like a yellow canary?

Mystery Wednesday

I wanted to wear some sort of heels with this outfit – be it a stiletto or a wedge – but quite frankly, the double dose of yellow was already pushing my luck, so I decided to tone down the potential hoochie mama-ness by opting for my clunky boat shoes.  Roll up the pant, throw on a kitschy puppy print top and all of a sudden, you’ve emerged with your dignity and fashion sensibilities unscathed.

At least I hope so.

Mystery Wednesday

Mystery Wednesday

But back to my first brain fart, what about you, my friends?  Do you have set routines in your life from which you do not deviate?  Do people find this is endearing or annoying?  How do you feel about routine versus spontaneity?

Pssst!  Have you figured out what the mystery theme is yet, you clever one?

Don’t we all wish we had TARDIS closets?

I’m wearing yellow today too. I think it was a subconscious decision after I cracked your mystery theme. 🙂
I am extremely schedule & routine oriented. My husband must find it endearing because he never complains about it, he just teases me about my love of checklists. I don’t have exactly the same lunch everyday – that would get old.

Oddly, even though I agree that eating the same lunch every day would get old, I don’t have the same issue with breakfast. In fact, brain fart! There’s a routine for ya – I eat the SAME BREAKFAST SHAKE every day. 😀 I knew I’d find one if I thought more about it; I’m a checklist gal too!

Daily routines could never work for me personally, so I just choose to not have one. The yellow blazer bugged me a bit due to its dull yellow color which clashed with your super bright yellow pant/pants. Your shoes might have looked better with yellow pumps-I’m sure you have a pair-but too much of the same color (especially with yellow) China would spot you on the horizon. The other blazer brought a more comfortable feel, plus it complimented your shoes. Which was a nice touch. I cannot get guess your theme-I’m a terrible guesser so I just won’t try.
Outfit rating: 7 out of 10.

Odd that you felt the pants were brighter than the blazer; in the photos, the pants look dimmer to me by a long shot. I would normally agree with you on the camel blazer, but side-by-side shots show me that the proportion would be all wrong with this outfit if I wore it – it’s a longer piece and needs a heel to balance it.

Hopefully the theme will become crystal clear tomorrow…

Closet exhibitionist? Way to go for oxymorons ; ) I scream at my children pretty much every day…without fail. Yeah, mom!

    • mtsedwards says:

Didn’t even realize I was using an oxymoron until you pointed it out. Brilliant!

Screaming at kids is only a routine if you scream at them about the same thing at the same time with the same volume using the same inflection every day. ;p

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
