Week 17 :: of chance, chambray and Style Up

Let the chips fall where they may.

I am not a gambling sort – have been teased mercilessly about my reluctance to even try my hand at penny slots – so this week is a major step for me.

This week, my friends, I am going to let chance and Style Up determine my outfits.  And because I don’t get my email updates from them until 9pm PST, this means not being able to write copy or plan five days’ worth of ensembles.

If you know me at all, you will realize that this is tantamount to procrastination in my book, and I am doing everything in my power not to go into anaphylactic shock right now.  The only saving grace in this audacious venture is that I am at least guaranteed a look every day.  Whether or not I am able to reproduce it is another thing altogether.

Today, Lady Luck sees fit to smile upon me.  Not only are the pieces easily obtainable from my closet, I actually feel confident rocking this look.

Look as pulled together as Olivia Palermo in a chambray shirt, black pants, gold jewelry and pointy heels.

Style Up Monday

To qualify: although I appreciate a daily email that is neither a bill nor spam, with the added bonus of it being fashion-related, Style Up is really hit or miss for me.  Their ensembles are cute enough, but most are ones that would not be my first choice to throw together.  They’re either not appropriate to the weather (A light sweater for 85 degrees Fahrenheit?  Really?) or to my pocketbook (I will never own authentic Chanel.  Just saying).

We’ve got a winner today, though.  This is almost a direct reproduction of my college uniform: loose, untucked button up paired with body-conscious bottoms.  The only difference is that back then, I would’ve sported some killer Docs but as a grown-up, I suppose a pair of sassy snakeskin D’orsays are more apropos.

Style Up Monday

So it’s a great way to start my week.  It may not be the most innovative or creative of outfits, but my happiness factor is gleaming a sunshine-y yellow and I’m gonna take today’s inspiration pic as an omen of good things to come.

Here’s hoping my luck holds.  Coming up with themes for the blog is slipping down my priority ladder, what with this week being my last at work (which means grades and chaos) and next week signaling my impending departure for Yale (which means last-minute packing and chaos).

Style Up Monday

What say you, my friends?  Do we like this week’s “theme”?  Or do you feel cheated?  Would you avail yourself of Style Up’s services?

  1. Hello! And thanks so much for posting about StyleUp. You look awesome in your outfit. I also wanted to let you guys know that we are working really hard to tighten up the weather issue. When we are off — it kills me! But at least know attention is being paid to this. Thanks again & enjoy your fashion inspiration…. Kendall

Ah, Kendall! Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate all you do over at Style Up and I hope I didn’t come off as being too critical. And it’s awesome to know that you actually listen to fans/users and aren’t just a corporate head. 🙂 hope you come back all this week to see what your efforts have wrought.

I really liked this outfit, but I have to disagree with you about your shoe collection. I actually think I have a pretty decent collection at this point. Yours is amazing!

Definitely doing this look. It looks so effortlessly chic and it’s casual but not too casual because of the gold accessories and red pumps. Those pointy-toed pumps are to die for! Seriously though, I aspire to have a shoe collection like yours one day. I don’t get emails from StyleUp but I do get emails from Refinery 29 and numerous clothing stores and those are pretty hit or miss for me too. Love your blog Edwards, keep up the good work 🙂

Thanks for the kudos, Schroeder! And the fact that you took the time to comment means twice as much. And btw, my shoe collection is not really as extensive as it seems. ;p

Yeah, Style Up is hit or miss for me too. The outfit they sent last night was really cute – white lace top, coral shorts, khaki jacket, wedge sandals. The only problem was that we have 60% chance of rain – so sandals and a jacket w/o a hood don’t work at all. 😑

Your look is really cute. I like the pops of color you added.

    • mtsedwards says:

Oh, wow! I wish they’d sent me that look! I’d totally have fun recreating it, sans shorts of course. But yeah, I totally see how that is thoroughly weather inappropriate; makes you realize that humans are still good for something, eh?

I wonder if I’m allowed to switch my geography so I can do Style Up weeks at Yale?

And thanks for the kudos. I couldn’t crop it in, but Ms. Palermo’s shoes are cobalt blue, and I don’t own a pair that color. I do like how Style Up tells you how to recreate the outfit, giving very loose/general translations of the inspiration look. So I may not own pointy-toed cobalt pumps, but I own pointy-toed pumps. 😀

If you go into your Style Up profile you can change the zip code. Then you’ll get outfits for New Haven while you’re there.

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
