This is so nerve-wracking!
I don’t think I’m going to be able to sustain the energy or the wherewithal for this week. 9 o’clock pm is just way too late for me to be style blogging.
Which is a complete 180 from where I was a mere year ago, when I would stay up until the wee hours of dawn reading or knitting or catching up on my shows only to turn around and get up for work at five in the morning.
The mind is willing but the body is definitely weakening. In that respect, then, being 40-something sucks.
It doesn’t help that today’s Style Up look is not entirely appropriate for work.
I agree with the other comments about a tight pants + bare shoulders being a no-no for work. Now I know I’ve mentioned before how casual my co-workers tend to be, but today we are hosting yet another round of VIPs and we all know that bare arms make my happiness factor plummet anyway. I needed a power outfit today.
Therefore, I chose to interpret the “fun, artsy” part rather than the “tank” part of the description and nothing screams artsy more for me than bohemian. And nothing screams bohemian more for me than kimono tops. And whaddayaknow? I happen to own the perfect one!
I was actually going to go really loose in my recreation today and opt for white bottoms – Hey, at least it’s the opposite of black, right? – because I’d already worn what I thought was my one lone pair of dark skinnies for yesterday’s look. (I did try this ensemble with a black bootcut trouser but the proportions were way off, sending me into stumpy, Oompa Loompa land.)
Thank goodness for Lauren Conrad. Remember these pants? (Yowzas! I sucked at making collages back then!) Anyhow, I loved the white ones so much that I’d gone ahead and purchased a black pair which I promptly lost in the depths of my closet until today. I am ashamed to say they still had the tags on them, four months later. But all’s well that ends well because now I can get closer to the inspiration pic than I thought I would.
Nude heels and a topknot would’ve completed the look, but my hair is now too long and thick for a topknot so ponytail it is. At least I got the nude heel part down.
So, what do you say, my friends? Successful pseudo-dupe? Or should I have thrown caution to the wind and donned the informal tank instead for a true duped outfit?
