Travel week :: of interviews, Ditch Day #2, and a new protocol

We interrupt your regularly scheduled broadcast to give you the following breaking news:

My StyleUp interview is live!

(Click on the link above.  You know you wanna.  Come on.  Everyone’s doing it!  Peer pressure!)

I have no words…Okay, actually, I have loads of words, as evinced by my interview.  Kendall didn’t cut a single thing so it’s quite verbose, but did you expect less from me?

Anyhow, I’m quite proud of it and would love for you to share in my glee by visiting the StyleUp blog, but I don’t want to sound too insufferable and self-promote-y, so I’ll leave it lie and get on with yesterday’s outfit.

Contrast a bright, citrus-hued top with slate grey trousers and black heels.

Travel week Tuesday

In honor of my interview (See what I did there?  I’m relentless, aren’t I?), I decided to resume using my daily StyleUp inspiration pic as the framework for my own outfit.

But because yesterday marked Ditch Day #2 and because I’d planned more putzing around with the kiddos, I eschewed the heels for some practical flats.  Everything else is pretty spot on, though.  Right down to the plaid ankle pants.

My only dilemma in recreating this ensemble was deciding which one of my numerous tops to choose.  I’ve sure come a long way from not even looking twice at orange pieces because my winter color palette dictated against it.

And the new protocol?  Well, my friends, since I’ve lost my regular photographer for the summer, I’m predicting regular photo shoot opportunities will be few and far between.  Even more so when I’m at Yale.  So I’m going to try something different, which I’ve actually already begun this week.

As I mentioned above, the look you’re reading about today was actually what I wore yesterday.  I did the same thing for Tuesday’s post as well, if you noticed.

So the new protocol involves my blogging in retrospect rather than in advance.  Doing this affords me some flexibility with the photos, both with the time and place I take them.  I figure those of you who follow my blog for the prose would appreciate the change and those of you who follow for the pictures won’t care either way as long as I keep ’em coming, right?  So this temporary shift should be a win-win for all involved.

Of course, now I have to acclimate myself to this paradigm shift in writing.  I apologize in advance if the next few posts sound slightly schizophrenic.

Hmmmmm… I think I like blogging in retrospect, versus in advanced. Just me. Easier for you, (pretty much) the same thing for the reader. Makes it easier to get pictures, too!

Read your StyleUp interview! Loved it! I wish more people would pay attention to the copy…. I mean, really though, the copy is the most beautiful part. There’s more to life than just pretty pictures?

For a day with the kiddos, props for ditching the heels. Life is just better that way. And I thought you’d be amused that I started playing Pet City because I saw a request from Aly… I don’t know if it was old or if she still plays!

      Copy is king!

She still plays and sucked me back in last week. Now we both obsessively check out pets when we’re not trying to level up on Candy Crush. And can I say that the knife was on my wish list too, gosh darn it! ;p

Yay! I actually saw your piece on the StyleUp blog yesterday, but I didn’t want to steal your thunder by commenting before you announced it. 🙂
I loved what you said about reading the copy. People can be really nitpicky (and rude) about the exact pieces in an outfit. For instance, I could look at your inspiration pic above, and think “I don’t like red”. When I read the copy it says “citrus-hued”, and I realize I could pair a bright lemony yellow top with grey pants and acheive a similar look!
I read your blog for the copy and the pictures. I see absolutely no problem with blogging about yesterday’s outfit – it seems like it would just be easier that way!

Thanks, Selah, for not stealing my thunder. And I’m so excited to hear that my advice resonated with you. Sometimes, I do feel like a fraud, posing as this fashion expert. All my knowledge is self-taught and hard-won; I mean, come on! I’m forty plus and it took me this long to find my style self! But if I can impart any sort of wisdom and it makes some modicum of sense, then huzzahs all around!

And yes, I think there’s a lot less pressure and anxiety blogging in retrospect. For instance, this Friday, I’ll be traveling all day and will probably not have an opportunity to do much blogging, but I’ll be secure in the knowledge that you guys will have something to read because I’ll be posting Thursday’s outfit then. 😀

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
