I do so look forward to no-student work days. I can be productive and look like a bum while doing so.
Now, if confronted during the school year, I’d swear up and down with my last, dying breath that dressing the way I normally do is comfort personified.
But there’s something about warm weather and an empty school building that demands taking it down a notch or ten. And when I do that, I feel the difference distinctly. Like the weight of sartorial responsibility has been lifted from my unconsciously burdened shoulders.
Of course, this is me we’re talking about. So I’m guessing my version of bummy and dressing down is someone else’s regular wardrobe. If it is, can I just say how much I envy you and your lifestyle, and how much I truly appreciate the ease of a white button-up and a pair of cutoffs?
{Digression: See how much happier I am in a white button-up as opposed to a white tee? Can someone please deconstruct/articulate for me why that is? Please and thank you.}
You might be wondering why I’m wearing a silk scarf when the point of this exercise is to be as casual as possible. Lemme break it down for you:
1. It’s a recent impromptu purchase that was begging to be worn and was actually the catalyst for this ensemble, especially when I realized that all the other pieces (shorts and Chucks) were of the same cool grey shade as it was.
2. It gets cold in my classroom. According to Kate Gilbert, she “find[s] I am much warmer wearing a scarf, even if I’m not wearing a jacket”, and I tend to agree. All of a sudden, that tank top-with-floaty-chiffon-scarf look makes so much more sense.
3. Skulls. Pink and grey and white ones. ‘Nuff said.
I love Chucks and I think that’s going to be my next mission, once I’m off this self-imposed shopping hiatus that both KS#2 and I are on, that is. I need/want Chucks in every color. I love how they make my wide Hobbit feet look so slim and svelte. I love how they get even more cute and comfortable the older and more worn they get. And of course, Ten wore them in his adventures across space and time.
:: Just the facts, ma’am ::
Top – Old Navy
Shorts – F21
Shoes – Chuck Taylor All Stars
Scarf – Stage One

I forgot to mention, I bought my kids some Chucks recently. They can’t wear them yet because I got them at Marshall’s and the only sizes available were the next size up, but still. I got hot pink for my daughter (it’s basically a neutral for an almost 5 year old girl 😛 ) and TARDIS blue for my son!
OMG…Marshall’s?! I went to two different Ross stores today to try to find this dress I needed in a different size and they had Chucks but I didn’t see TARDIS blue. Shoulda gone to Marshall’s too! Argh! Did they have a size 5? If so, wanna pick one up for me and ship it? I’ll pay you back… ;p
The TARDIS blue ones were in little boys sizes. I think they had 11 and 13. Sorry.
I absolutely love your goal in owning a color wheel of converse. In my mind anyway the only thing that beats converse is a pair of cleats. I am missing being your photographer. It was my morning “ritual” I guess. 🙂 and you know how much I value a routine.
As for the tee vs. Button up, it’s because you are very concientous
LOL, SarahSolar! I got the rest of this comment via email. Thanks for answering my white tee vs. white button-up; it makes sense how you explained it.
I am missing your being my photographer too. You know, we have to plan for your eventual graduation, so recruitment for TA now must include someone who I feel comfortable with and who knows her way around an iPhone. ;p
Seth is going to be ten for Halloween if I can just figure out the jacket. One of my projects for the summer. Clara swears she will wear blue converse under her wedding dress which, I think, would be too cute for words ; )
You can always do a vest. That’s what I’m doing at Yale (they told me to bring some sort of costume/cape/prop and I’m Ten for sure)!
I told Del to wear orange Chucks under her wedding dress and she chickened out at the last minute.
Speaking of orange – I found the orange dress at Ross in a size 10! It’s a bit big but big is better than small – can always have Lisa tailor it.
I love it! My friend Dawn told me yesterday that my Chucks are becoming my signature shoes, and I told her to blame it on the Doctor!
Just picked up a fuschia pair AND a salmon pink pair at Ross. Am on the lookout for red, TARDIS blue and black.
