Yale week 5 :: of vino, defiance, and hasty braids

It was particularly difficult getting up this morning.

I hit my snooze button far too many times and kept having to give myself incoherent pep talks to get me to even open my eyes.

Not that I was particularly comfortable – my sheets were askew again because they’re flat, not fitted, and I only have a sheet and not a blanket so cuddling into it is so unsatisfactory – but I think it was a combo of three generous glasses of wine the previous night and grey skies this morning that contributed to my sluggishness.

I had such an amazing evening, too! It was our night off so A Staff went for Italian and then a movie. Or at least that was the plan. We realized early on that all Italian places are closed on Mondays – go figure! – and we had to hike beyond the city limits to find one.

After a phenomenal, albeit slow-serviced, meal consisting of Veal Francese, a house red, a Chardonnay and a Cab, we trotted back for the cinema. It started to rain, though, and the more I thought about it, the less I wanted to watch an indie flick set in the Thailand underbelly, Ryan Gosling notwithstanding.

So LO and I broke off from the rest of the crew and went for froyo instead. Strawberry boba toppings over Toasted Coconut and Tart Strawberry yogurt, ftw! Then I spent the remainder of my evening with GoT and stale Corn Pops. Could it have gotten any better than that?

But then the text comes through at 8am about it being another send-off day which meant I was thirty minutes behind schedule and it also meant another orange shirt day.

Lemme tell you, my friends, something in me just snapped at that point. I said to heck with orange shirts! I had already planned my outfit last night – actually thought about it and tried it on – and I was not about to let it go to waste.

Forgive the half of my face you see here in all its unmade-up un-glory. I had to take these selfies quickly because I knew I would have to book it to the quad for send-off and then book it again to Atticus for my breakfast scone and iced coffee. I didn’t think I’d have time for make up and hair and photos.

I was already in a quandary about how to style this cardigan. Which do you think I ended up with?

Side note: I did have time for tinted moisturizer and eye liner and mascara after all. But I threw my hair up in a hasty pony and was feeling scaggy until Lindsey came and I asked her to braid my hair. I really ought to learn how to do it for myself.

Tied is a great look. I must try it!

  2. Del says:

I can’t believe you don’t know how to braid your own hair! We must go over this when you visit! Haha

I like tying it, too! Sounds like you had a great night. You do have to learn to braid your own hair, though, silly!

  4. I like how you tied up that long cardi – I think it looks better than when it is left loose.

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
