OOTD :: of Thirty Pretty Projects Day 1

Selfies taken with a mirror and a timer app in anticipation of losing my TAs. Sniff.

I have always been an admirer of Sally over at Already Pretty.

But now, I think I’ve graduated to fangirl status. And all because of her Thirty Pretty Projects, which will be the theme for the next month. You know it’s serious when I’ve actually spent money (yeah, a whole five bucks!) on something sight unseen.

And because I’m a masochist – or perhaps just a lover of surprises – I won’t even sneak a peek at the end. I’m going to take each challenge day by day. (Okay, who am I kidding? Week by week is more like it – I like to see my work outfits all lined up in a row.)

Today, we start off with highlighting an aspect of my figure that I LOVE. And hand’s down, we all know it’s gotta be my legs. It was a toss-up on how to showcase them, though. Pencil skirt or skinnies? I guess we know what won out.

Perhaps it’s wishful thinking on my part that we’d actually have an early fall, complete with cooler weather and all. Or perhaps I’m still in the throes of rocker chic-dom. Regardless of reason, I am really digging the red plaid/black combo I’ve got going on.

The pattern of the pants really draws attention to my legs, and book-ending this with black top and shoes just contributes to the emphasizing. A new silver bauble from NY&Co. completes my Monday look.

Red plaid, black and silver accessories – these are a few of my favorite things.

P.S. What is it with Mondays and really bad lighting?! Argh. Pardon the pictures. We’ll try for better tomorrow…

5 things :: what I’m following

The new fall season is truly upon us now.

And I’m going to pretend I’m single, with no kids and all the time in the world. Or I’ll just develop an intense relationship with my DVR. Because there are loads of new shows just begging to be obsessed over, and I’m a bit anxious about the amount of sleepless nights I foresee in my future as I try to take them all in.

Some of these have already earned a permanent spot in my queue and some are still forthcoming. In a way, I’m hoping the forthcoming ones end up being duds so I won’t be compelled to follow them.

  1. Sleepy Hollow [Mondays, 9pm, FOX] – Can we say eye candy? Who is this Tom Mison and where has he been all my life? Oh, and the plot’s not so bad either. Well, the pilot anyway. I just hope they don’t make the two protagonists fall in love.
  2. The Blacklist [Mondays, 10pm, NBC] – Covert Affairs was getting stale and predictable, and this show looks like it’ll fill that espionage void in my line-up.
  3. Marvel’s The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. [Tuesdays, 8pm, ABC]- Joss Whedon + superheroes = ftw!
  4. The Tomorrow People [Wednesdays, 9pm, CW] – Not airing as of yet and it might go the way of Heroes, but I’m always up for a good soft sci-fi show since Revolution didn’t do it for me.
  5. Once Upon a Time in Wonderland [Thursdays, 8pm, ABC] – Have taken the original off my queue because the characters were getting progressively whiny and irritating. Here’s hoping this spin-off can revive the magic.

What I bought :: September 2013

This is a difficult post to compose because, as of this writing, I still have several orders that have yet to come in the mail. Which begs the question: if I buy items in one month but don’t actually receive them until the next, which budget do they fall under?

Eh, who am I kidding? These are all September purchases and boy, howdy! Did I go over budget! The Gwynnie Bee dress alone took out a huge chunk. I’m consoling myself with the thought that I’ll probably be returning the NY&Co. haul.

(Note: I’d received my Old Navy haul Thursday and am returning 3/4 of that this weekend. Still debating on the owl sweater – might be to twee?)

Also, I dunno if I should count lipsticks and underthings as part of my clothing budget because they’re necessities, right? Like toothpaste and feminine products?

And what about the purses? Are they part of clothing budget or should I have a separate accessory kitty? Argh. Being good is so hard!

OOTD :: of faux trouser jeans and shopping links

So how does one do trousers on casual Friday?

Why, with a pair of trouser jeans, of course!

Okay, these aren’t technically trouser jeans, but the bootcut leg gives the illusion of such. Also, the dark wash elevates it from your normal informal denim so I’m dubbing them trousers.

I’d toyed with the idea of pairing these with a fun graphic tee, but I’m a bit bloaty this week and I didn’t want to subject you to my lovely muffin, so flowy top it is. Also, I think I’ve had my fill of neutrals.

(Yesterday’s outfit left me feeling a bit blah – what with the white walls, gray floors and an inadvertent monochromatic look. In retrospect, I shoulda worn bright red lipstick or a vibrant scarf for a pop of color.)

Anyhoo, I always feel best when I wear black up close to my face, and this polka dot number is one of the few flowy black tops I own. Choosing it was a total no-brainer. And because I’d alluded to rocker chic-ness earlier this week, I give you a moto jacket and boots. Boots! Ah, fall! Thank goodness you’ve arrived!

In other news…

I wonder if my loyal readers care about shopping links. Frankly, finding the links to similar items – especially ones that are seasons old – adds an extra hour or three to my blogging time, and if no one really bothers clicking on them, then I wouldn’t be averse to getting rid of them altogether. I sure would appreciate replies to this question; I hate spinning my wheels if I’m going nowhere.
