There were five starter questions in today’s TPP prompt, but for the sake of brevity, I shall address only one.
Is your favorite garment the same as the one you wear most often? If not, why not?
This question really hit home because as you know, the answer to that question is “no”. And the reason is because I have so many clothes, it’s simply impossible to distill my favorite down to one I wear the most often.
You may be thinking that this is another one of those first-world problems, and that I should just embrace my largesse. But reflecting on this forced me to reevaluate my closet, the purpose of this blog and my spending habits, and I came to one simple conclusion: I need to stop.
Oh, not stop blogging. Not at all. I think blogging keeps me honest. No, I mean I need to stop spending. Or seriously limit my monthly budget. I also need to stop following style blogs that focus on featuring new trends. That way leads to madness. Instead, I need to follow other people who have the same goal I’d initially had: re-purposing and re-inventing personal style using stuff already in our closets.
And speaking of already in my closet, I present to you the outfit of the day. The dress was an impulse Ross buy before I left for Yale and the cardi was a last-minute grab at the thrift store five months prior to that. I would never have thought to put them together, since they were purchased seasons apart and also since the browns in the belt and boot do not actually match the brown of the cardi.
But inspiration can sometimes come sneaking up from behind to tap you on the shoulder. In this case, inspiration’s name was Aly. My fashionista-in-training suggested the pairing and I think she got it spot on.
