Today’s challenge requires me to wear big earrings, which is all fine and dandy but is a bit vague in terms of crafting an outfit around. Wouldn’t you know, Angie at youlookfab was talking about casual glitz as a fashion niche which totally revved up my creative engines. Three huzzahs for Angie!
Perusing her examples helped me visualize how I wanted to showcase a pair of big earrings. I am so all about the juxtaposition of informal and glam; it was just a matter of determining which went where.
Initially, I was going to do this whole symmetry thing where I’d do fancy/casual/fancy/casual with earrings/top/bottoms/shoes, but I realized I had very few fancy bottoms and I really only ever do casual footwear on Fridays. So my plan needed serious revamping.
Because I was in a serious time crunch – This is what happens when you try to outfit plan in the middle of the week. How do normal people dress themselves every morning?! – I chose to go with the tried-and-true denim capris/nude pump combo. I’ve always admired that look on others and now was the time to try it out.
With three-quarters of my outfit complete, it was simply a matter of finding the perfect top. In this instance, it was finding the perfect combination of two tops. I couldn’t wear the sweater by itself because it’s super sheer, and I couldn’t wear the blouse by itself because I’ve already worn it on its own in a different ensemble. Together, however, they make a winning pair, adding to that daytime glam look I was aiming for.
I did have to practice with tuck/semi-tuck/untuck before I found an acceptable (read: minimal) amount of garment grin, and I’m not sure if I’m all that satisfied with the end result. (I also fear it’ll photograph weird, the way sheer items do in certain lights). Still, not bad for a hasty, impromptu switcheroo, eh?
