OOTD :: of outfoxing the trend…not

I am ashamed to say I paid over retail for this sweater.

It was one of those uber trendy things from last season that didn’t catch my fancy until it was sold out and then of course I had to own it so I went to eBay and spent a shameful amount on it. Well, shameful considering its original sticker price.

Ah, the price of fashion! <—This is me, penitently self-flagellating.

To add heaps of insult to injury, I then proceeded to fail at styling it. Needless to say, this sweater languished in the Great Pit of Carkoon that I call my closet (from now on dubbed Carkoon, because I’m a big Star Wars geek and because it’s alliterative – Carkoon. Closet. Oh, stop judging!)

Anyhow, my nagging conscience made me unearth it three weeks ago, determined to make me make something of it. If I failed once more, I vowed to sell it back on eBay. (Can you believe people are doing Buy It Now postings at $199 for this baby?!)

I really do like this sweater, but I realize I’d bought it one size too big because Old Navy clothes shrink and I’m both paranoid and mentally anorexic. “One size too big” means it’s way too long for my frame, which is probably the reason I’ve had such a time styling it – its proportions are all wrong.

Here’s hoping today’s ensemble makes good use of all my self-taught knowledge. I like how the orange of the fox is mimicked by the oranges in the skirt. A bit matchy-matchy, but perhaps this will detract from the unfortunate length of the sweater. I also like how the camel of the boots elongates my leg, allowing little ol’ vertically challenged moi to get away with a midi skirt.

The bling factor is the ample – or should we say extravagant? – use of arm candy, mirrored by a chain belt I’ve owned since the late 20th century. How’s that for vintage?

:: Just the facts, ma’am ::
Sweater – Old Navy (similar)
Jacket – Mossimo @ Target
Skirt – thrifted
Boots – Michael Antonio Cane
Bangles – H&M

    I cannot imagine paying $200 for a sweater. I’m a clearance rack / goodwill budget kind of person, but the sweater is uber cute. My daughter would kill for that! I love this whole outfit! It looks amazing!

    I could totally see this sweater with leggings and boots! It’s so cute…not $199 cute, but cute!

    I wonder if this sweater qualifies as a collector’s item since it is now selling for $199? I guess I like matchy match.

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
