OOTD :: of repurposing with purpose

So I realize I’d not really made a big deal about the Piko top aside from its introduction on Monday. I guess it’s because, at the end of the day, it really is just a layering piece. It would more than likely fall under the category of “basics” if one was shopping online.

But, boy! Is it a workhorse! Sometimes, layering pieces make the difference in an outfit. Take today’s for example. This cardi/jacket was another impulse purchase during my aforementioned Mad Men phase. I was in love with portrait collars, and this scratched the itch at a time when choices were limited. I think I wore it once because it was new and then promptly disregarded it for other, newer things.

I’m such a magpie.

After my phase passed, then, I was at a loss as to what to do with it. It’s too heavy and black for spring, but the three quarter-length sleeves really prevent it from being a true winter item.

Enter the Piko top. I love how its sleeves are super skintight and so, when they peek out past the cardi, they don’t look bulky or awkward. And I love how that simple, little detail helped me overcome the blahs and made me fall in love with this cardi all over again.

Well, that and the fierce over-the-knee boot. Eheh.

P.S. I also noticed a fun thing about this cardi: depending on how I do up the hidden buttons at the neck, I can make it prim and proper or asymmetric and edgy. Transforming cardi ftw!
