OOTD :: of companions and Clara Osgood

My favorite companion of the Nu Whoverse has gotta be Donna Noble.

Perhaps she won me over with her feistiness. Or perhaps it’s because Catherine Tate’s casting caused so much uproar and divisiveness amongst fans and she ended up proving them all wrong. Or perhaps it was because I was tired of the Doctor getting so embroiled in romantic tension with his companions, and I needed the snarky level-headedness of someone who successfully maintained and made believable a platonic relationship with him instead.

Or perhaps it’s because she’s closer in age to me than the previous two and I could realistically live vicariously through her.

Eheh.

So of course I’d initially planned on a Donna-inspired outfit for companion day. But time passed and so did Donna, and I fell in love with the Ponds instead and then had to mourn their passing and now…well, now here we are.

Clara Oswin Osgood. The newest companion. The Impossible Girl. And although it’s too early to tell whether she’ll win my respect as Donna did or my heart as the Ponds had, Clara has managed to pique my curiousity. And I do love her sense of style.

Of all the companions in Nu Who, Clara seems the most real. She actually changes her clothes. At one point, we even see her with wet hair and a towel slung over her shoulders, making it seem like she truly lives in the TARDIS. Which is weird because she’s also the first companion who spends as much time in her daily life as she does traveling with the Doctor.

But this is not a Doctor Who blog; it’s a style blog. And to channel my inner Clara, I had to decide which of her outfits I could easily replicate. Can you guess which I chose?

  1. You hit the style straight on with this outfit! Love the booties. I don’t know, I thought I couldn’t stand to watch anymore Dr. Who when Rose Tyler got dumped on that beach, but then Amy Pond grabbed my attention. I’m having a hard time liking Clara… I think she looks like she’s about 12 years old. Something about her hasn’t won me over yet, but I’ll give her time. Also, saw the Dr. in 3D last night and wrote about my adventure today, thought you’d enjoy that! See ya!

    • Oh, Theresa. /pets sympathetically

At least your son didn’t give you a lecture on speeding like mine did when I got pulled over a couple of years ago.

Left you a comment on your blog…

  2. Im glad im not the only one who lives through the Doctor’s companions, I was constantly wishing I was Amy. Matt smith is jut perfect<3

  3. Good choice, as Clara is easily the most stylish companion. Donna is my favorite too! I didn’t like her AT ALL in The Runaway Bride, but her reunion with the Doctor through the window in Partners in Crime won me over, and I’ve loved her ever since. Catherine Tate is hilarious and heartbreaking.

    • Selah! I missed you! Hope all is well with you and yours.

Yeah, Clara was easily the easiest companion to replicate style-wise so maybe I cheated a bit by choosing her. I will always have a soft spot for Donna, though; Partners in Crime had me in stitches!

      • We moved over Labor Day, and we’ve been busy getting settled / selling the old house. My husband hung art on the walls yesterday, which means we’re officially settled, and I’ll have a little more free time to read & comment on blogs. πŸ™‚

          • Thanks! Completely good reasons – we’ve been saving for over a year to get a newer, larger home. We ended up in a brand new house with 2x the square footage – it’s awesome!

  4. Very nice Clara-response … you put out the vibe very properly! She is a street-style fashionista, isn’t she?
I always liked Donna, but never really warmed to her. The Doctor-Donna episode was riveting, though, and broke my heart. I thought about it for days.
The Ponds were wonderful, and I’m liking the very smart and assertive women we are seeing from the writers. Clara is in that mold, besides being the Impossible Girl … so glad there’s more there to find out about her in the future.
What a fun thing to do for us all at Thanksgiving. Thank you … I’m enjoying your fun with you.

    • I love Whovian fans! You guys really get me! I hope I’m doing the show justice with my humble interpretations of such icons. It’s just too bad I couldn’t take these looks for a spin IRL, but maybe I will someday.

Thanks for stopping by, Jan! It’s always lovely to get such wonderful feedback from like-minded souls.

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
