OOTD :: of food babies and Santa Claus

Please ignore my food baby.

I was so anxious about not missing the window of good light for this photo shoot that I didn’t scrutinize my poses as closely as I obsessively usually do. It wasn’t until later, when I was creating the collages, when I noticed the distinct belly bump in some of the photos. That’s some raging turkey tortilla soup in action, my friends!

But enough with my self-conscious blather; let’s discuss this outfit, shall we? According to my daughter, I look like Santa Claus. Food belly notwithstanding, I’m gonna take that as a compliment since she still believes, and Santa is on her top ten hero list.

Now, I could’ve diminished the Santa effect by opting for a different colored pant, but the winter white of these babies really sets off the red?orange?paprika? hue of this sweater, and I just can’t be arsed about whether or not it makes me look like a jolly old elf. To embrace the vibe then, I opted for my fuzzy Khombus – so much sleeker and cooler than Uggs, don’t ya think?

Getting back to this sweater – can you believe that it’s practically ten years old? Yeah, ten. I think. I know I owned it before I ever got pregnant with my first, so yeah. Definitely at least ten years. It’s a bit pilly under the arms, but it’s still warm and it still fits and I’m calling this vintage and patting myself on the back for being so eco-friendly.

Nowadays, knowing what I do about fit and body proportions, I wouldn’t ever have bought a turtleneck cable knit sweater because combined, these two elements make me look wide and uniboobed. But I heart this particular sweater so much that not only have I kept it, I am featuring it on my body for all the world to see. But because I am still a self-conscious wench at heart, I accessorized with a long chain that supposedly draws the eyes down and creates a faux v to diminish the uniboob-ness. Did it work?

  1. […] Okay, so maybe it wasn’t a food baby. […]

  2. […] a light, grey mock turtleneck from Old Navy eons older than this one, with the perfect (read: not Griswold obnoxious) Fair Isle pattern. I wore the heck out of that […]

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
