HGB :: NYX Cream Blush

So we return to our regularly scheduled broadcast with the next step in my beauty regimen.

If you recall from the last time, we had just finished cleansing our face and prepping it for product. (There’s that royal “we” again. Will I never learn?) And now comes the mad rush to complete “putting on my face” before the carpool gang comes a-honkin’.

I’d previously talked about the first two steps of my actual makeup process here and here. Next comes the cheeks.

Now I never professed to be an expert at makeup – that’s the purview of KS#1 – so I am the last person to come to if you need to know about contour and highlighting and bronzing. And because my skin is so dark, I’m not too concerned with blending but I do worry about color saturation.

That’s where NYX cream blushes come in. Seriously, folks, all I do is pounce twice on the compact with my Real Techniques stippling brush, then pounce several times on the apples of my cheeks to transfer product.

That’s it.

No brushing or blending or shaping or any other -ing verbs that have to do with creating that perfect glow/cheekbone line. I just stipple.

Of course, there’s the next step of my regimen which includes a kabuki brush and finishing powder but that’s another feature for another day. What I’d like to focus on today is the awesomeness that is the NYX cream blush. Here are my reasons, in no particular order:

  1. Loads of color saturation using very little product (two pounces, remember?) which means
  2. More bang for your buck. One compact used every day of the work week lasts me two months. Easily.
  3. A magic formula that makes me look even better as the day wears on. I dunno if this is a trait of all cream blushes, but this one somehow reacts to the warmth of my body so that, by the end of the day, I feel I have more product on my face than when I started, And because it has reacted to my body heat, it actually makes me look au natural and glow-y.
  4. A wide range of colors for all skin types. I’ve successfully used Tea Rose, Natural, Tickled and Glow and I love them all. Tickled is best for everyday summer use because it’s the sheerest, but the others are perfect for all seasons.

The best place I’ve found to purchase this product online is not amazon – gasp! – but Cherry Culture only because they regularly have all the colors in stock. The shipping is a bit on the high end, but they do have periodic sales and that helps defray the cost. Besides, if one compact lasts me two months, I tend to think of the shipping charges as money well spent.
