So this week’s theme was confounded, once again, by the weather.
You see, it was originally called Casually Cropped and I was going to highlight cropped jackets. The nature of cropped jackets, however, makes them awesome for fashion but miserable for warmth, and since we’re promised highs in the 60s this week, I threw up my hands in surrender and was ready to relegate them to the back burner until spring.
But then…dun dun dun…brain fart! What if I paired the jackets with cashmere?! I’d be able to showcase the jackets and still keep warm!
Now, before you pooh-pooh cashmere as the purview of the rich and snotty pants and ignore my posts this week as being beyond your price range, lemme let you in on a secret: all the cashmere I own is Target-bought.
I know, right?!
Of course, my versions are ages old, bought and hoarded when Isaac Mizrahi still had a partnership with Target. Mine, then, are 100% cashmere; this season’s iterations of them are only 15%. But cashmere is cashmere, folks, so I highly encourage you to pick them up in all colors.
Why the big to-do with this material? Because of its inherent super ability at insulation. This means you can wear a relatively thin cashmere sweater and still stay plenty warm. And trust me, if you’ve already got natural padding like I do, the last thing you want to do is throw on the layers to add visual poundage, you know what I’m sayin’?
Cashmere is your friend, my friends!
Today, then, I offer for your consideration an ensemble that retained its initial state at inception except for the key addition of a pink cashmere sweater over the pink cami. (And wool tights and Khombu boots over bare legs and my OTK boots, but who’s really keeping score?) I like this version of the outfit enough but do fear the low-heeled Khombus make me look rather stumpy. But hey, I’m warm. I’ll get over my Oompa Loompa paranoia.
