I have all kinds of feels for leggings. I truly think they trump jeans as the go-to bottom for busy moms everywhere.
Now, this may just be residual college-in-the-90s love, but you really can’t go wrong with leggings, especially these fleece-lined ones I scored on eBay. They’re comfortable, versatile, not black and survivors of a trip through regular cycle in both washer and dryer. In a minute, I’m gonna show you how to make it “in motion” appropriate, which will then fulfill all of JMC’s requirements.
First, though, I need to point out that this ensemble is a bit risqué because the top is a wee bit short for the leggings. It barely covers my derriere, but I’m allowing myself to showcase it here because a) this is my “at home” look, b) I’m short and so the top-to-bottom ratio isn’t as egregiously apparent, and c) I have no derriere to speak of.
Now if you must leave the house, I strongly suggest you throw on something that overtly and deliberately covers your behind, like a super comfy boyfriend cardigan. It may seem like a cop-out maneuver, but trust me that it’s fashionable. How? Let me count the ways:
1. By choosing the exact same color for both cardi and leggings, you are totally rocking the monochrome and give the appearance that you actually thought about what you threw on.
2. By pairing the slouchy cardi with bodycon leggings, you’ve mitigated the potential frump. Adding a pointy-toed metallic flat also diminishes the sloppy factor.
3. And if you’re still not convinced, how about choosing one of the three accessories I’ve utilized all week as your final layer?
I’ve had fun playing at SAH motherhood this week, my friends. I deliberately created outfits around items that I’m sure most of you already own, but I also managed to stay true to the spirit of style. I hope I didn’t come off as patronizing or clueless or obvious in any way, and I hope I managed to inspire you to experiment with your own closet.
