OOTD :: of retro cool and fashion battles

I’ve long since given up on getting gussied up for school events.

After all, it’s not my time to shine, it’s my students’. And most parents should realize that I’ve already put in a good solid day’s work by the time they see me and it’s not like I live next door to the school so I can change outfits before the main event.

That said, tonight is our annual Poetry Out Loud competition and I’ll be on campus until 8pm. It was most definitely a flats day. Thank goodness for skinnies and channeling my inner Sandra Dee (or is this look more Rizzo?). I love the retro feel of wearing skinnies with flats because I feel I can be fashionable and comfortable at the same time.

The top’s attached bow tie had proved problematic for me in the past because a) I suck at bow tying and I could never make it look like the product page, and b) I was always afraid of looking too Jane Fonda in 9 to 5.  It was on its way to the cull pile until the intrepid TA’s suggested theme. Then I immediately yanked it out and commanded it to become a cute outfit. It slunk under the fun dalmatian print cardi and acknowledged who was boss in this situation. Ha! Winner winner, chicken dinner!

  1. I LOVE this outfit! So so so so cute. The color combo is great, and the print totally makes it!

And I didn’t even have my usual dither about whether yellow and black would make me look bumblebee-esque. You’re right; the print makes it! ;p

Definitely cute, funky and comfortable all at the same time. I love the Yellow with the leopard – it’s not something that would immediately come to mind but it works really well. You also have the legs for the skinnies!

Lol at the Jane Fonda comment, I actually thought she looked great in 9 to 5 and I loved her extra feminine suits 😀

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
