OOTD :: of florals and plaids and fast food color combos

Getting dressed has never been so easy!

I knew I wanted to do a Mad for Plaid week, been hankering for one since goddess knows when. But I needed to collect the proper pieces to do the theme justice. After all, plaid is my self-professed favorite color and I wanted to create outfits that really showcased its versatility beyond your typical preppy/British gentility vibe.

So I searched and scoured and deliberately chose items that reflected my funky chameleon vibe. But then, as with all things in my life, I kinda went overboard. Oh, alright. I went a lot overboard. And you know that feeling when you have so many things at your disposal that choosing is debilitating? No? Oh. Just me, then.

Thank goodness for link ups. I knew I had to get geared up for Patti’s Visible Monday, but I’ve also begun joining in on Anne’s 52 Pick-me-up. Keeping these two parameters in mind and throwing in my own self-imposed theme was like Captain Von Trapp blowing that whistle to call his children to attention: this outfit just seemed to magically create itself and everything fell into place.

For 52 Pick-me-up, I had to choose a scarf and wear its colors. It may have been a cheat, but I chose this floral confection because it had every color of the rainbow in it, making it a breeze to pair. I picked out the red in it for my bottom and the yellow in it for my top. Yes, I remind myself of a McDonald’s advert, but I’m hoping that the lively pattern mixing mitigates that visual reference.

And do I have to explain the reasoning for Visible Monday? I’m thinking I’m pretty darned visible in this ensemble.

All in all, it’s a wonderful way to start my Mad for Plaid week, if I do say so meself.

You grace both link-ups with your favorite color. I’m seeing so much yearning for spring in everyone’s posts … you’re all ready for it after the long winter where you are.
Great pieces, every one. The brights suit you so well! Thanks for the hint of spring. Brightened my day considerably.

Funnily enough, it’s spring-like weather where I’m at so I’m not yearning – I’m just dressing to my temperature. Is that rubbing it in? ;p

    1) finally found where to click to write a comment! Doh!

    2) I released you from comment moderation (finally). You had three stacked up, waiting to land. Now to go back and find what you wrote…

    3) THIS OUTFIT!!!!!!! It makes me smile. McDonald’s was the furthest thing from my mind as far as color scheme goes. (But wouldn’t that be a funny prompt? “Dress like your favorite fast food emporium” Don’t be surprised if it turns up!)

Oops. Forgot to add, thanks for linking up with 52 Pick-me-up! You ray of sunshine, you.

    • mtsedwards says:

      1. Does this mean you’ll be visiting regularly to comment more? ;p

      2. YES! Comment moderation begone! So now I can leave links?

      3. Ahahahaha! Go read my latest comment on your blog, Anne! I think we’d make a great collab team, coming up with themes together. We think alike, I’m guessing.

Excellent excellent scarf and plaid! And a yellow blazer? Wow! Did I say excellent?

    • mtsedwards says:

Why, thankee kindly, m’dear! I’m really starting to love the red/yellow combo. Don’t be surprised if you see more of it from me. And yes, I live in blazers. They’re a boon to my linebacker shoulders.

  5. Val S says:

Mmmm, florals and plaid – nice combination. Actually that scarf would look gorgeous with anything – even a Big Mac!

  6. I totally wasn’t thinking about a fast food chain until I read your title – what a nice bold color and pattern look on you!

    • mtsedwards says:

Yeah, I think it was just me grasping for a title. It’s really far from reminiscent of McDonald’s because it’s not a solid wash of red, right? Btw, I think we were on the same wavelength today because we both wore red, pointy-toed pumps. 😀

  7. I have this scarf and love it too! never would have thought to pair it with plaid, loving it!!!

  8. Your 2nd paragraph = why I have a 65 piece wardrobe

The floral scarf definitely mitigates any McDonalds vibe the outfit may have had.

    • mtsedwards says:

I know, right? I’m beginning to seriously consider your 65-item wardrobe. But I like the versatility of having each color of the rainbow represented in my tops. And pants. And skirts. And blazers. And cardis… ;p

  9. mmmm – plaid plus florals looks so great! Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday.

  10. dapperdolly says:

Colour stunner! In the best possible way 🙂 you remind me of a Summer’s day.

Looking forward to your other plaid outfits 🙂

    • mtsedwards says:

Ah, summer! If only! Woke up this morning to frigid temps – well, frigid for SoCal – and had to don a pair of gray tights to keep my gams warm.

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
