Green plaid blazer: $12. Floral skirt: $15. Tights: $8. Pumps: $35. Outfitted in a superfab plaid ensemble for under a $100: Priceless.

So aside from the tights, which were still a bargain since I got them on sale from the website, this entire look is courtesy of my fave thrifting place – eBay. I know it’s always a gamble to buy things online, and sometimes there are questionable sellers out there, but if you’re wise and careful and well-aware of feedback scores, then eBay just can’t be beat for sheer volume and variety. I challenge any brick and mortar to go up against the might of this resale giant and win.

Besides, I’m stuck in BFE suburbia with nary a hip thrift store in sight. Can you blame me for taking advantage of whatever resources are available to me?

But anyhow, back to the clothes. Here’s my Cliffs Notes commentary on today’s ensemble:

1. The collar of that blazer pops up instead of laying flat, giving it a vaguely militaristic flair. Total bonus since I didn’t notice it either when I bought it.

2. See that peek of neon green by my toes? Adorbs and a pleasant surprise since it picks up the green on the blazer.

3. Yeah, I’m wearing tights with peep toes. And I couldn’t care less that it’s a fashion faux pas.

4. I probably should’ve worn a turtleneck instead of a necklace to fill that expanse of neck. Note to self for next time.

5. You know you’re totally jealous of my crocodile print tights.

6. I must love the floral/plaid combo; it’s the second time this week that I’ve done this particular pattern mix.

7. I’m wondering if I should replace those monstrous plastic buttons. They feel dated. Or is that just me?

  1. The buttons — I like them!
To change them, and if you’re on the western edge of LA on a Saturday, I suggest taking the blazer to F&S. The Button Lady there is an EXPERT! (This is hoping for you that she works then. Maybe call ahead and if you ask for Shirley the Button Lady, they’ll know who you mean).

    The stand-up collar is interesting!

    Loving your pattern combos!

  2. As a buyer there’s always a soft spot in my heart for eBay, if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t been able to afford half my belongings over the years lol. As a second seller now and then, I’ve noticed they’ve gotten pretty tough, tricky and expensive though.

The blazer fits you very well and I love the print, I would indeed replace buttons – probably for dark Silver toned ones. The whole outfit is splendid as I love the mix of prints and colours.

I always wear tights or socks with everything, even sandals lol no one’s said anything to me yet, good for them 😉 The necklace is lovely and a turtle would’ve suited too, either way it works. Oh and the tights look Blue on my screen. I always find it tough photographing Red, Blue and Purples!

  3. Based on the link for the tights, I think they’re really a royal. almost navy, blue (some might say TARDIS blue) and I’m assuming the blazer is too. However, on my screen the blazer and tights read as dark purple, and I love it! I saw your comment on PMT about not being able to wear purple. Girl, please!

I disagree about a turtleneck, I like the necklace (of course, I hate wearing turtlenecks, so I might be biased).

I do think some different buttons might be better on the blazer – maybe metallic ones to play up the military vibe?

    • Of course it’s TARDIS blue – think I would’ve bought them if they weren’t? ;p

See, purple is such a complicated color. The purple Audrey was wearing on PMT is more pink/fuchsia which I’m still leery about while some TARDIS blues/cobalts skew purple and we all know how much I love those.

LOL. Weather turned on me and I ended up wearing the turtleneck after all. Itchy? Sure. But I’m oh so warm right now.

Am gonna have to take a trip to JoAnns and peruse the button aisle, aren’t I?

      • Maybe it’s my fair skin (I’ve been told I look like a vampire), but I love all shades of purple. I have a sweater almost exactly like Audrey’s. It’s my favorite!
And I have very big issues with anything on my neck. Notice I don’t wear scarves, turtlenecks, statement necklaces, or even long hair. Even thinking about something on my neck gives me the creeps. I know I’m weird. ;P

        • Weird is not necessarily a bad thing. But it is a bad thing for you to have hang-ups about your neck because you are giving up on a plethora of accessorizing. 😦

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
