OOTD :: of Crazy Socks Day and hat attacks

2.6.14 picstitch(7) picstitch(8)

Full disclosure: I came last today.

I was so excited to participate in my first ever Hat Attack link up and I was so determined to wear crazy socks in honor of today’s spirit theme that I plumb forgot about my own Thrifted Thursday deal. And I fell in love with today’s outfit so much that I couldn’t even entertain the thought of revising it.

So there’s really nothing particularly thrifty about today’s ensemble. I actually paid full price for all the items save the fishnets, but even those were on sale for only a mere 20% off so I don’t know if that counts.

Digression #1: These are my first pair of fishnets and I’m kicking myself for never having bought them before. Oh, the fun I could’ve had with these in my 20s!

In my defence, all the pieces did come from lower price point retailers so perhaps you’ll let me slide this time? Let’s just all admire the awesomeness that is this crushable bucket hat and how perfectly it sets the tone for the whimsy of the rest of the ensemble. I feel one part Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and two parts Daria Morgendorffer. Not a bad combination if I do say so meself.

Digression #2: I worried about keeping the hat on all day while I taught, fearing both that it’d be a distraction and that it was improper in some way. Thank goodness my boyfriend Google set me straight on the latter with this article.

:: Just the facts, ma’am ::
Top – H&M
Blazer – Target (on clearance now, you lucky gals!)
Hat – Target
Skirt – H&M
Socks – old so I don’t remember where
Boots – Charlotte Russe

I’m glad you checked out the hat etiquette with Syndi – whew! You have to be a good example to teenagers. And you are! Your outfit is fabulously adorable! I love the mismatched socks, and your photos are so cute. That smile really works for you. :~)

And to think I used to hate pink! Nowadays, it always seems to put a cheesy grin on my face when I wear it. It just makes me feel more adorable than I think I actually am. ;p

  4. Super cute look! My craziest socks are TARDIS socks. 🙂
Fishnets aren’t generally my style, although I did have some in college. I was in the chorus for a performance of All That Jazz (from Chicago) and we had to wear fishnets.

I am in LOVE with this outfit! I still want to be you when I grow up! I love the hat, but I was checking out the boots too! So cute.

Aww, Theresa! Thanks for stopping by. Haven’t heard from you in what feels like eons. hope all is well with you. And yes, this has got to be my fave outfit of the week – I feel both tough and sassy, which I’m beginning to think is my fashion M.O. ;p

Wow I’m very impressed and would love to wear an outfit like that – it has everything from the ever wonderful Pink/Black, to the socks over tights, gorgeous make up and retro coolness. I absolutely love your expression and pose in the first pic lol very Monroe The Seven Year Itch. The whole outfit design is just spot on 😀

Don’t worry about the hat, I wear them all the time indoors and outdoors unless they’re wide brimmed though I used to wear caps indoors as a self conscious teenager. I would call yours more of a weather than fashion hat but! about a decade ago that type of hat – bucket hat I think? – came into fashion so it passes the indoor rule :-p

    • mtsedwards says:

Yep, you’re right. No one batted an eyelash at my hat so it must be kosher to wear indoors all day. Thank goodness because I had bed hair this morning and couldn’t be bothered to fix it.

As for my fishnets – are you familiar with them? Do they always go all the way to the waist? I got pantyhose and not stockings and I’ve already ripped a hole in the nether regions. Should I go hunting for ones with built-in undies or just go for stockings?

      • dapperdolly says:

Hmm I’m not really familiar with them but I had two pairs, one in large fishnet where there was no top/gusset just the elasticated waistband and a smaller net that did have the top so there probably is a variety out there.

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
