OOTD :: of sweet mint, sour sherbet and playing hooky

The last time I did polka dots as a theme was March of 2013.

So when Anne @ Spy Girl pronounced her weekly theme to be dots, I just couldn’t resist. After all, next to plaid, polka dots are my fave pattern to play with. And since I’d already planned on linking up with her, why not kill multiple birds with one polka dotted stone, eh?

Thus, I present to you, my friends: Dotty for Dots week!

At first, I thought to challenge myself by not using any items from my last attempt, but I’m a bit ashamed to say that it wasn’t much of a challenge. At last glance, I had enough polka dotted items (bottoms and tops) to do Dotty for Dots week three times over. So instead, I looked to my regular linkup buddies and created ensembles around them. Today is Visible Monday and what can possibly be more visible on a dismal winter day than mint and chartreuse?

Although I feel a bit like a fizzy adult beverage (Buck, anyone?) and should’ve probably saved this outfit for Anne’s Dress Like Your Fave Cocktail week, I am truly enjoying the visual interplay between two vibrant colors. Throw in some bold pattern mixing and you’ve got yourself an ensemble fit to beat the back to work blahs.

Lucky me, I’m ditching work on official business. It’s a long saga which involves a required TB test, egregiously incompetent bureaucrats at district, and multiple and needless hospital visits and I can’t discuss it in detail or the powers that be may just sue me for slander – I’m still that irate! – but the upshot of it all is that I was able to take a boss-sanctioned day off to “go to the doctor” one last time to expedite the whole mess.

Normal number of hours I’m at work, including commute = eight.

Doctor visit = one hour, tops.

Number of hours I have blessedly to myself to squander how I wish = seven.

Who’s laughing last now, beeyotches?!

  1. Okay, you have to let us all know the minute you get the health related- all clear, yes? Really, that was rhetorical. I meant to issue a command. Please?
(That was begging ….) Or is this just a bureaucratic SNAFU? I’m confused!
You are the only woman I know who manages to look dashing and adventure- bound in polka dots and brights. Amazing. VERY cute, this look. You rock.

    • SNAFU. Basically, it took three weeks and multiple emails back and forth to determine that, due to a false positive skin test four years ago (which was cleared by a chest xray four years ago as well), a negative skin test today is no longer enough; I have to obtain a signed letter from my doctor stating that I am not a ticking TB time bomb about to explode and infect the good children of Pomona. And I have to do it all before my “expiration date” of Feb. 20 or risk being sent home on unpaid leave. Bleh. So I took the day off to get that letter. I’ll be faxing it eventually…

  2. Okay, I just went back to read your response to my comment the other day about getting the code for the 52 Pick-me-up button, and I can’t find how to email you. Maybe I’m missing something. My email address is valspanswick at gmail.

  3. The colors of spring and sunshine – if my memory serves. Not all of us live in sunny SoCal! Beautiful mix of colors and patterns. I don’t know why I don’t have more dots like that.

    • I could never take myself seriously in regards to blogging. There are too many professionals out there who do it much better than I. That said, the following days’ photos will be riddled with me doing my serious, half-open mouth thing because, well, you can never have too many serious, half-open mouth pictures. ;p

    • Lies, Gillie! You know you’ll feel much more put together in your color palette! Although, if you can sneak in a mint or chartreuse scarf, I bet it’d go with what you’ve got.

  4. Now there’s a sight for sore eyes! What a wake up call that outfit is, bloody brilliant. I love the combination of colours and the necklace speaks to me in particular.

About the Red tape – ugh I hate that rigmorale.

    • Ha! That necklace was a last-minute purchase to make up for some store credit that needed to be spent right there and then and it was uber busy in the store so I just grabbed what was nearest to me. Lucky snag? I think so!

And “bloody brilliant” makes me cackle. I wish I could say things like that out loud without sounding like I’m trying too hard. ;p

    • I’ll trade you the pants for a crack at your pink paisley jacket, Sue! ;p And yes, I did enjoy my day today. Picked up some fun dresses at Ross and Target. I may not end up keeping them, but I sure did enjoy my non-rushed, no-kids, no-stress shopping expedition.

    • Oh, I know my health is good. That’s the problem, isn’t it? I’ve got a clean bill of health from EVERYONE but because of semantics, the powers that be won’t accept my verification. Argh. I won’t get started. I’ll just say “thank you” graciously for the lovely compliment and to you, dear Patti, for hosting Visible Monday. 😀

    • As I mentioned to Patti @ Not Dead Yet – SoCal winters just aren’t cold enough to warrant sympathy from the rest of the country. So although it looks like I’m longing for spring with this outfit, it really is just right for our current temps. You hate me, I know. ;p

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
