The nominations part deux

shineon

And the accolades keep a-comin’!

At the risk of seeming prideful and hubris-riddled, I present to you the Shine-On Award. Thank you to Dolly @ Substance AND Style for nominating me. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of getting these because, chain letter connotations notwithstanding, they validate my status as a full-fledged style blogger and a viable part of the community. I’m still as giddy and gleeful about it as I was the first time I received one.

And now, on with the show…

If you would like to accept and forward the award on, the “Shine On” Award rules are:

* Display the award logo to your blog.
* Show appreciation by acknowledging the blogger who nominated you and link back to them in your post.
* Share 7 random, interesting things about yourself.
* Nominate 15 bloggers you admire and happily pass on this award, making sure to link their blog into your post.
* Contact your chosen bloggers to let them know.

My 7 Random Facts:

1.  When I was single-digit years old, I used to tear off the top edges of whatever book I was then reading and absent-mindedly eat them. Yes, I’m weird. I guess you could call me the ultimate bookworm, eh?

2.  I have two tattoos but I got them both before tats were mainstream which means they’re tiny and symbolic rather than large, colorful and ornamental.

3.  I stand up for all my wardrobe choices regardless of unmerciful teasing from him, but somehow I allow my husband to dictate the length of my hair. (Oh, how I long for a chin-skimming bob or pixie cut!)

4.  I studied British Literature, I teach British Literature, I want to retire in England, both my kids have British names, I watch BBCAmerica more than U.S. shows. I am an inveterate Anglophile. And yet…I can’t do a British accent to save my life.

5.  I must always have equal parts rice and meat (or bread and meat, or pasta and meat; basically starch and meat) or I won’t finish whatever’s left on my plate.

6.  I always root for the sidekick. So Han Solo over Luke Skywalker. Robin over Batman. Watson over Sherlock. But…it’s always the Doctor. You just can’t pick companions over the Doctor. ;p

7.  Plaid is my favorite color.

And now, my nominees…

I admire all these ladies for their brilliance – either for fashion or for words or, in most cases, for both. This list looks suspiciously like my blogroll but that just goes to show you that I’ve curated it well. I only ever follow people I truly respect. Do yourselves a favor and click on their links; you won’t be disappointed.

  2. Thank you! (Finally, she checks her mail!) I’m always flattered when anyone takes notice of my blog, and especially flattered by these friendly awards. Nice, always. These tend to circulate, and right now I have a couple of nominations to celebrate … will get creative very soon and come out to play! You’re adorable, and I appreciate the shout out.
These are interesting facts about you!
Especially #6. I get this. Although, you rarely have to choose between the Doctor and the Companion … the Doctor always takes care of the companion.
I’d add Spock over Kirk. But always Picard over everyone else.
I’m an Anglophile as well. BBC America was my personal favorite Best Thing That Happened in 1998. Then came Acorn Television via Roku. BBC Nirvana.

    • Definitely Spock over Kirk. How could I forget that pairing?! Must I surrender my nerd card now?

So I’m guessing you’re a Sherlock fan too?

  3. I’ve always wanted to have a British accent, too! Thank you so much for the nomination, Maricel! I’m glad Selah introduced us- you are thoughtful, hilarious, and an inspiration. Looking forward to shopping our closets together!

    • OMGosh, do you know how long I labored over 7 random facts? That’s like asking my to name my favorite book or movie or color. The topic is just so vast and my mind went into overdrive. Glad I was able to enlighten and amuse. 😀

As for the tats, let’s just say they are small enough that I was able to hide them from my mom, even when we went to the Philippines right after and lolled about in beaches in our swimsuits. That was some pretty tricky lolling about I did, lemme tell ya!

  4. These are the only chain letter type things I condone as well 🙂

You’re welcome and thank you for nominating me too – though if it’s because you couldn’t think of anyone else to fill the posish you don’t have to pass these awards to the exact amount of people specified 😉 but I do appreciate it 😀

It’s great to read about you 😀 and lol at fact 1 – that’s almost like you were ingesting/taking in the words physically as well as mentally!

Interestingly enough when I was commenting on your photos yesterday mum said that you’d look nice with a bob and that you have the hair for it, both a classic one or a shoulder length one. She said that I could say she said that and I said it might be a bit too personal and that you’d said on a another post that you’d like a bob but didn’t want to cut your hair or wear a wig because you live in a small town where it isn’t common. Now I read this – serendipity 🙂

  5. Hello, my dear 🙂
I like these awards that makes us learn something more about our fellows bloggers.
I just loved to know all those things about you. #1 is just so funny and cute and I think you have a nice favourite colour.
Thank you so much for nominated me and most of all for the comment you left me on my blog. You’re very kind and I feel so flattered.
Actually I already did that (and yes I nominated you too 🙂 ).
    Thank you again
    xoxo

  6. Aww, thank you Maricel! Since I just did the Liebster Award, I’m only going to do the first 3 parts of the award, okay?
Your # 4 fact is awesome! I too adore British lit, gave my children British names, watch BBC shows, and can’t do a British accent worth a darn.

  7. What the heck? How did I make this list? Thank you!!!! It is so fun learning more about you. You deserve Maximum Awards! My long-suffering husband has absolutely NO say in my style. I didn’t even take his name when we got married…poor thing. I do let him choose the radio station in the car, though. I, too, am a huge plaidophile and Anglophile. Also, I hardly ever do my homework. :-/ LOVE

    • I always did my homework but I had an Asian dragon mom so that’s my excuse. ;p

No worries about fulfilling the obligation (I was hard-pressed to do #4 and #5 meself) but I sure would love to read 7 random facts about you…

    • Well-deserved, Sue! Lurve you to bits! And as I said to Val, please don’t feel obligated to do much with this except bask in the fact that you’re super cool. I really just wanted to recognize my peeps, and I am honored to consider you one of them.

  8. Why do husbands have to tease? Mine does it, too, and I find it irritating. I *never* tease him! BTW, he’s British, and I lived in the north of England for 10 years. I can do a southern British accent, but not a northern one, even though I was around it all that time.

You definitely deserve this award! Thank you for nominating me :~) but I’m going to pass. There’s no way I could come up with 15 blogs that haven’t already been nominated (most of them are on your list!).

    • Oooh, but you can just do the 7 random facts and post the award on your blog, can’t you? Coz I’d love to read more about you and you’re right, most of the people on my lis have probably already been nominated for this at one point. I thought about that – if I nominate the person who nominated me (Dolly @ Style AND Substance), does that mean the circle just keeps going? ;p

      • There are about 10 things about me on my old blog, Late Blooming Sparkle, under the tab If you really want to know. Maybe I should copy it over to Muse Fondue. Or maybe I should maintain an air of mystery…

        • Oh, you MUST copy it over. I love #3. And having now read all 10, it’s so clear why we get on so well. We’re kindred spirits, you and I, although I think you live our life with much more excitement than I.

    • P.S. I think I’m just a little bit jealous that your husband is British AND that you lived in my dream country for 10 years. Sigh…

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
