OOTD :: of being in the pink and favorite staples

I love linkups! They make getting dressed in the morning so effortless.

Take this week, for example. Anne @ Spy Girl predetermined my theme by decreeing it In the Pink, which I gamely took on as my personal challenge. After all, I was never fond of the color and knew I had minimal offerings with which to work. A true challenge indeed to create five unique outfits implementing the color.

And then Caitlin @ Greater than Rubies threw down the gauntlet with her Favorite Staples suggestions, so I had to wrap my brain around that. This was decidedly more difficult than the first because as we all know, I’m all about novelty. Very few of my clothing options have “favorite staples” staying power.

Still, even with two parameters to work with – or perhaps because of them – outfit creation ended up being a piece of cake. I present to you today, then, my pink offering plus staples.

The pink is obvious, of course. Nothing much to say except take a gander at those cunning pink seahorses. Aren’t they adorable? Another item my sisters told me was icky but I’m glad I bought anyhow. It works quite splendidly pattern mixed with the cardi’s stripes, doncha think?

And the staples? I’ve waxed rhapsodic over these jeans before but the waxing bears repeating because, c’mon! A pair of stretchy skinnies that mold themselves to my body like a second skin for under $10? Win! so that’s one item that will always have a place in my closet. The other? Check out them Chucks, my friends. I swore I’d have them in every color and I’m well on my way.

Jeans and Chucks. Since when did I morph into sporty chic? I must admit to really loving the comfort factor of this outfit. This is the kind of thing I’d totally wear if I was a SAHM. As it is, today is a holiday – the tail end of my 4-day weekend in celebration of President’s Day – so this was the perfect ensemble to run around and do Mommy things in.

Vive le denim et des chaussures de tennis!

  1. There you go with those acronyms again! SAHM? Stylin’ and Hot Mama? That must be it.

I love pink and orange together! Also love the seahorses, and they are not icky. I think they had a few of those when I bought my Merona bird shirt. (I call it my Little Wing shirt because I’d heard that Jimi Hendrix song the week I bought it. Before your time, I know.) Jeans and Chucks are perfect for days when you don’t want to overwhelm everyone else, but just want to be a little more stylish than them. It’s working for you!

    • Oh, Val! You make my day! I guess I must’ve been in the military in a previous life with my propensity for acronyms, yeah? SAHM = stay at home mom, in case you weren’t being cheeky.

I wanted to get that bird shirt too but settled for seahorses because I’d already purchased a bird shirt at the time.

“for days when you don’t want to overwhelm everyone else, but just want to be a little more stylish than them” – is that noblesse oblige for mean girls? ;p

  2. It sounds like your sister has quite different clothing taste to you, but I’m with Selah I like it too 😀

Stretch demin jeans with turnups are also a thumbs up – I have a pair of my mum’s from the 70’s and they’re the only pair that have fit comfortably since I was 15!

Looking forward to the rest of your Pink week 🙂

    • Speaking of twinsies, you and your mum sound like the perfect pair. She’s as gorgeous as you too, btw (yeah, I read that post this weekend!) and you can tell her I said so!

  3. The seahorse shirt is adorable, especially paired with stripes!

Jeans & Chucks, two of my favorites! If my Levis hadn’t finally died at Christmas, I totally would’ve featured them. And I seriously considered featuring my Chucks as well. 🙂

If you were a SAHM like me, we’d probably be twinsies quite often. 🙂

    • Twinsies! Definitely! I can see us planning our next-day outfits now. You know, as a teacher, I’m a SAHM for two months out of the year. This summer, maybe we can play? I suck at summer outfit planning because it’s so flippin’ hot here in the center of the sun – I mean, in Inland Empire SoCal with nary an ocean breeze to cool us.

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
