OOTD :: of proud mamas and comfortably chic

So remember yesterday’s outfit?

Well, I must still be in the throes of SAHM-hood. Perhaps it’s fallout from having such a gloriously long weekend. Whatever the reason, today’s outfit still has remnants of that mom vibe and you know, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I think SAHMs get such a bad rap about being these lounge pants-wearing, ponytail-sporting, non-makeup-having harried women who roll out of bed and can’t be arsed to do much of anything with their appearances. Unfair, I know, and when one is faced with the reality of household chores and children – thankless and never-ending jobs, I assure you – one should not be judged if one chooses to muck about in pjs all day.

That said, it was proven by my week of styling for SAHMs that fashion and comfort are not mutually exclusive. Therefore, I am not being disparaging or pejorative in the least when I state that today’s ensemble is a mom ensemble. It’s got all these casual elements – wrinkle-resistant jersey skirt and cardi, oxfords and an oversized button up – that allow for running around with the kiddies and taking them out for fro-yo. However, the details of said elements – vibrant neon floral print of the top and equally vibrant cobalt blue of the skirt, not to mention the asymmetric hem of the cardi – combine to create visual interest and elevate this entire outfit.

Now thank goodness I work in the rather bohemian atmosphere of a progressive high school so I needn’t be too “professional”; this ensemble is perfectly proper, thank you very much. But if you wanted to take this look to a more conservative workplace, I suggest you swap out the oxfords for a pair of nice heels, tuck in the top and add a wide belt.

Whatever floats your boat.
