OOTD :: of Mai Tais and fussy collars

I swear. By the end of this particular photo shoot, I wanted to burn this top!

It just wouldn’t behave: the collar was fussy and kept curling. The front kept gapping. The shoulders wouldn’t lie flat and kept bunching. I had to tug down in front and in back between shots. It was miserable, I tell ya!

The only thing that saves it from the cull pile is that it’s the only red top I own. Seriously. And by itself, it’s fine. It’s a Converse Star top from Target and it’s got these nice stretch side panels that are very slimming. Unfortunately, those side panels were what caused the top to be so fluster-y in the first place. I suppose I could’ve styled the outfit without the blazer. Or tried a different, looser blazer. But hindsight is always 20/20, and when I’m in a race against the sun for proper light, I really don’t have time to regroup and redo.

Anyhow, silver lining: don’t I look like a yummy Mai Tai? I really love styling red and orange together – it’s such a fresh combination and quite pleasing to the eye once you get over the fear of being too conspicuous. Then again, when have I ever feared being too conspicuous?

I could’ve upped the wow factor with accessories, but frankly, I foresee tugging at my top all day and I can’t be bothered fussing with anything else. I figure I’d let the fun pattern of the skirt and the vibrant colors do all the talking for me.

And that’s all I have to say about that.

You also look like a Tequila Sunrise, but then you don’t like Tequila. Was there actually a little wind? Somehow, it looks like you brought a fan to your photo shoot! Very professional!

My dear, you’re becoming a pro dressing as a cocktail 😉
Your skirt is so lovely and the colour combo is great! The issues with the top aren’t visible in the photos.
I also love your shoes!!! I’m such a shoes lover and now I’m having issues to wear them…. 😦 I can’t walk with my high heels…. I hope I’ll find some middle ones for spring.
Thank you so much for linking with Très Chic Style Bits

I, too, am beginning to have shoe/foot issues. Makes me sad to know that my days of wearing stilettos are nearing their end. I guess I just have to make the most of it while I can.

You certainly do look yummy and a very good comparison for the Mai Tai photo 🙂 It’s a shame the top gave you such issues but I agree that it doesn’t show, I think I like the Red shoes the most, something about them really finishes off the outfit. You’re doing marvelously well with the them 🙂

  4. Does the top fit well when worn alone? Is it just the combo of top & blazer that’s a problem, or is the top annoying by itself? I have button-downs that are great alone, and frustrating when layered under a cardigan. Sigh.

“Then again, when have I ever feared being too conspicuous?” LOL! Seriously! And I admire you for that. 🙂

Yep, it’s annoying when worn with a layering piece. Maybe I ought to just reserve it for warmer days when it can be worn alone. Or, as I’d mentioned, a blazer with a larger arm scye?

Yeah, I’m such a closet exhibitionist. Pun intended! ;p

  5. You look fabulous girl! I do understand what you are saying about the top…I’ve had the same experience. But, honestly, I don’t see anything amiss in the photos! I’m just all agog about the fabulosity of being a walking Mai Tai. My favourite tropical drink, by the way!!! I adore this colour palette, and the print of the skirt is gorgeous. Love it all!

Okay, I’ve been trying to find pumps that fit me well…not having a great deal of luck yet with my 5.5 shoe size. What heel height are your red shoes please? They look a flattering, but wearable height. Thanks!

I think you may be biased, Sue, since Mai Tais are your poison. That said, thanks for the compliment; it’ll keep me happy all day even as I continue to tug at that darned shirt. 😉

The heels are 3″, but they’re not red, you know. In reality, they’re more orange-y in hue. But I swear by them. They’re from Payless of all places and they’re the most comfortable pumps I own – so much so that I have them in EVERY COLOR sold.

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
