OOTD :: of Harvey Wallbangers and sunny happiness

Okay, full disclosure time. I really don’t drink this much. I actually don’t drink cocktails at all. With the exception of the mojito and the gin and tonic, I’m really more of a wine gal.

In order to fulfill Anne’s Dress Like a Libation theme, then, I had to resort to my boyfriend, Google, to help me out with inspiration pics. Most of the cocktails I pulled up were quite yellow and I was willing to go all monochrome with the color but I needed an actual drink to go with the look.

It was a clear case of chicken or the egg.

Enter Spiritdrinks.com. What an amazing resource! If I were still in my 20s with a well-stocked bar, I’d be in heaven right about now. As it was, I had a lovely time browsing drinks by color and I found the perfect one to end my week and match today’s outfit. Ever heard of a Harvey Wallbanger? Well, now you have. And here’s the super-easy recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1-1/2 oz Vodka
  • 1 splash Galliano
  • Orange Juice
  • Garnish: Red Maraschino Cherry, Orange Slice
  • Glass: Highball Glass

Instructions:

  • Fill a highball glass with ice.
  • Add the vodka and fill with orange juice.
  • Top with a splash of Galliano and garnish with a maraschino cherry and an orange slice.

I’ve never heard of Galliano, but this drink sounds light and refreshing, exactly the kind of yum I’d love to spend my Friday with. Sure, it’s really just a fancy-pants Screwdriver, but it sure does sound fun. (Imagine hollering for that at the bar). And a fancy-pants drink is a perfect match to my fancy-pants outfit which is a perfect way to end the week.

  1. I remember Harvey Wallbangers. The name at least — I never drank one. They were big in the 70s? 80s? Distant past.
A site that sorts drinks by COLOR? Hahahaha. The Google really is the best.

  3. Now this is a breathtakingly beautiful outfit to me – I absolutely adore strong Yellow and admire how you can wear both light and strong/darker Yellow together in such a flattering way. I tend to find paler to rosy skins suit light Yellow and medium to dark skins suit darker Yellow but you wear both without any issue looking utterly fantastic! I love the collar on the shirt and overall it’s a very cheering outfit.

    • Funny you should say this because when I got my “colors done” a long time ago, I was told under no circumstances could I nor should I wear yellow. Good thing I tend to be a rule-breaker in my older years, eh?

      • Colours done for? Aura analysis, biochemistry, biorhythms? Or perhaps I’ve got the wrong end of the stick and you mean something like skin tone complimentary shades? 😀

All I can in general is that the body and what we exude changes so perhaps that practitioner would have a change of heart seeing you now 🙂

Funny thing about the rule breaking – ‘they’ say Capricorns get younger as they get older. Being an old git, I mean goat I can see what they mean to an extent and with you being a Gemini, well you know all about your duality. Perhaps one of you couldn’t wear Yellow but the other can and that version is out now 😛

        • Skin tone complimentary shades. 😀

Well, she did only have a pic of me – did the whole thing online – and it was a poor picture at that. Maybe I’m not a cool winter! Maybe I’ve been deluded for the latter half of my fashion life! Argh!

LOL. All drama aside, I do like your take on colors. Yes, we change as we age and yes, I’ve got two (or maybe more) of me in me, being Gemini and all. All I know is that I’m a lot braver with playing with color now. Sadly, this bravery wreaks serious havoc on my pocket book, but I’ve got plans for my spending addiction…

  4. I have heard of a Harvey Wallbanger, I just don’t remember where – Mad Men, perhaps?

You look so pretty and sunshiny – just what I needed to see on a cold, grey, rainy day. 🙂

My favorite cocktail is a Moscow Mule, but it’s clear-ish, like ginger ale. I’m not really into clear clothing. ;P

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
