OOTD :: of FIGs and forest green goodness

I like it better untucked – more casual that way.

But I didn’t want to waste the tucked version si voila!

…or professional. Your choice.

I think it’s fitting that today be my Colored Cardi link up day with Caitlin.

After all, I would never have met Caitlin if not for Selah. And I would never have acquired this stunning cardi if not for Selah.

You see, Selah was the original owner of this beautiful piece, but she’d had issues with it and was getting ready to rid herself of it. I’d half-jokingly asked her to donate it to me, but good-hearted soul that she is, she actually took me seriously and sent me the cardi by post.

I squeed with much delight and excitement, I tell ya! Not only do I get something for free, I also get something in a color I don’t own but had been Mad Hunting for off and on for as long as I can remember. Selah calls it “jade” but on me and in reality (I lightened the pics to compensate for cloud cover dimness) I do think it’s a scrumdilious forest green.

It’s also 100% wool and sure, it’s a bit scratchy, but that’s the nature of wool and I hardly ever wear cardis without an under layer anyway. I’ll just be sure not to pair it with a tank or short-sleeved shirt. I think it wears marvelously with the Nanette Lepore top I got on superduper sale at jcp.

Wait, wait…wot?! Did I just hear myself say that? That’s right, I remember now! I snagged this top $9.99 on clearance, original price $34.99. I think that totally qualifies as “thrifty”, don’t you? And is today not Thursday? OMGosh, bonus! Because quite frankly, I’d pretty much given up on my self-imposed Thrifty Thursday in all the brouhaha of joining other linkups and keeping them straight in my head.

So it’s Colored Cardi day at Greater Than Rubies (green is a color) and Thrifty Thursday here at MCC (I think a free cardi and a $9.99 top is a considerable bargain). You know, sometimes serendipity scares the bejeesus outta me.

Also, because of a scheduling snafu, I’m making this outfit do double duty as my “green/St. Paddy’s Day” outfit so I can link it up with Anne. I may or may not come up with another color-appropriate outfit on the actual day – don’t wanna get pinched, doncha know – but in case I fail, ceci ma contribution.

:: Just the facts, ma’am ::
Top – Nanette Lepore @ jcp
Cardi – gift from Selah
Skirt – F21
Pumps – Seychelles

:: Linking ::
Remix Rewear Restyle @ Greater Than Rubies
52 Pick-me-up @ Spy Girl

P.S. But what’s a FIG, you might ask? Oh, young Jedi. So wise beyond your years. Clearly I’m not talking fruit since it’s all caps and thus an acronym. (Gods, I love me my acronyms!) FIG = Fabulous Intervention Guru which is what I’ve dubbed Selah since she is my partner in crime/voice of reason in my never-ending quest to not spend my children’s college fund with all my decadent shopping.

I like the colors – nice and strong but subdued. Well, not subdued, but less showy. Really rich and jewel-like. And pretty shoes – I love the shape of the heel. Sexay!

  2. I dig this pattern and color combo! That blouse looks great on you!

    • mtsedwards says:

It was one of those impulse buys that I’m glad I grabbed. There are so many colors in it that I foresee loads of remixing with this as a base.

Happy mood colours here and you look like you enjoyed wearing the outfit – I’m another untucked fan 🙂

So happy you explained FIG because I was thinking Newtons and I just didn’t see it. Love a cardigan. Another cute outfit. Lurve your shoes!

    • mtsedwards says:

These shoes are proof positive that you really need to splurge on quality footwear. I’ve had them now going on seven years and they’re still comfortable and fashionable and in great condition. I swear by Seychelles!

Yup … grand values and sweet gift from a bud! Lots there to love. I do like the untucked styling. To my admittedly sometimes inept eye, you look longer than with the tuck. (Note, please, that I didn’t say taller!) And you get to see more of the pretty print. Makes a difference if you want to emphasize the skirt or the top. And it makes a difference that the top sweeps up at the hip rather than making a straight line across.
    Cool. Very pretty all around.

P.S. I left a rather lengthy note on your recent (9th?) post about a shopping intervention and wanted to make sure you knew it was there.

LOL! We shorties know all about visual illusions, don’t we? And yes, seeing them together like this makes me realize why I’ve always subconsciously worn all my tops untucked. And here I thought it was because I wanted/needed to hide my belly.

And yes, I received an email about your post and answered you back, lovely lady! xxoo

I agree with you and Anne – untucked and approachable! The color looks so pretty on you!
I always preferred to wear this cardigan with a button-down, because of the itch factor, like I did here:
The big problem was that it shrank just enough to make it feel restrictive, especially with a button-down underneath. I’m glad you could give it a good home. 🙂

    • mtsedwards says:

At the risk of sounding mercenary, I’m happy it shrank because then I do get to give it a good home. 😀 It’s really too bad all my close blogger friends live so far away; I’d love to do clothes swaps with all of you. Then again, imagine the damage we could do together, eh? Mwahahahaha!

  7. Anne the SpyGirl says:

Untucked and approachable, that is YOU!
I got double notification of this post today, your linkup and the email subscription. That equals a timely comment! Woohoo! (Helps that I decided to get to work “when I get there”. Right now I’d be on the 105 if I were to arrive at 9, when I’m “supposed” to.)
Thanks for linking up. And see? It’s more challenging to mix from your closet. Maybe not as fun, but I never intended 52 Pick-me-up to be a catalyst for shopping. 😉

    • mtsedwards says:

Oh, I always leave my house an hour early to get to work an hour early. Even though I carpool, there’s always that “window” of free-flow traffic on the 15/10 Fwy that you need to hit if you want to get to work on time and in a relatively cheery disposition. Sure, it means I give 185 free hours to my job, but it’s a small price to pay to not have to fume through traffic.

And yes, it’s deffo more challenging to mix form my closet. But I do so love a challenge and as long as you keep these coming, I’ll keep rising to them. Btw, though, I may have to do a switcheroo with your upcoming weeks because pre-planner me already had geometrics week all done according to your old schedule. 😉

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
