Although I always give credit where credit is due, I really don’t remember who introduced me to Design Seeds. And that’s a shame because this website rocks is a phenomenal style resource and I want to personally thank whoever it was that turned me on to it.

Without it, I would never have dreamed that all these elements could come together so harmoniously. I guess I’m just not a visionary when it comes to greens. I love the color but am always so stymied when I think to style it.

It’s no surprise, then, that when St. Patrick’s Day comes rolling around, I experience serious performance anxiety. I was almost gonna pass it up this year, what with my lack of green-outfit-making skills and my not even being Irish and all. But around these parts, it’s criminal to deny the Emerald Isles (the hubs insists he’s Irish, is a die-hard Notre Dame fan, and chose our firstborn’s name specifically for its Irish roots) and at the very least, I feared getting pinched within an inch of my life.

I had no choice.

So there’s corned beef and cabbage in the crock pot as we speak, and I scrambled like a madwoman over the weekend to come up with today’s ensemble, thanks in large part to Design Seeds.

I present to you, my friends, the inspiration:

bamboo

Gorgeous. I know. I won’t blame you one bit if you decided to visit the site now.

Go on. I’ll wait.

Back so soon? But do you see what I mean by inspiration? It’s like having the entire paint sample wall from Home Depot at your fingertips, and without the mess or the guilt of having swiped dictionary-thick stacks and surreptitiously thrusting them into the depths of your purse. No? Oh, just me then.

Anyhow, I’m just giddy that I had all these pieces in my closet to replicate the palette. And I’m doubly giddy that, rather than feeling intimidated by green anymore, now I can’t wait to mix and match and play with the green items I’ve got. [Insert a maniacal rubbing of hands and cackling here]

So take that, St. Patrick’s Day! I’ve got you beat!

  1. The brights are the perfect pairing with that pant! I’ve been thinking about adding a patterned pant, but don’t want one that screams. I may have to copy you! Thanks for sharing your remix with us! Hope you have a great rest of the week, Maricel!

    • These pants are the shiznit! I got them in both colors and they’re on clearance at Target right now. Not that I want to be instigator or anything… ;p

  2. Was it my Pinterest? Design Seeds is one of the first sites I tell my design students about. One great thing about it? You can dial in a particular color and see all the palettes that she’s used it in. It’s amazing!
A very sunny and cheerful look! I like the greige (that’s fashion-speak for greyish beige) grounding it.
Thanks for linking up! You escaped virtual pinching from SpyGirl!

    • It might very well have been you, Anne, although I don’t follow your Pinterest (must rectify this!) so perhaps you mentioned it on your blog? And yes, I love the dial-in option.

Haha! No one pinched me at all! ;p

    • Thanks for stopping by, Carrie! And thanks for the kind compliments. That necklace is an eBay purchase. Went on a Mad Hunt for statement necklaces after having lusted after Lisa’s @ Respect the Shoes. It’s a beauty, isn’t it?

    • I used to collect the paint samples for all the ingenious names – fodder for the fantasy stories I’d write – but anymore, they just have boring old numbers. :/

      You’re welcome for the referral.

    • I’m thinking of doing a week of nothing but Design Seeds-inspired outfits. How’s that for fun, eh? My poor Pinterest board is groaning from the weight of all the “seeds” I’ve Pinned already. ;p

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
