OOTD :: of turning 42, favorite colors and pattern overload

This week is brought to you by Anne @ SpyGirl’s Pattern Overload theme. (See how I commemorated Memorial Day and fulfilled the theme simultaneously here.)

Today I give you a repeating floral diamante, a graphic tee and multicolored spats. If that’s not pattern overload, I don’t know what is.

Bonus #1 is that today’s outfit incorporates two of my current fave colors: TARDIS blue and chartreuse.

Bonus #2 is that I’m incorporating an older fandom to show my geek diversity (it’s not always all about Doctor Who around here, ya know!)

Bonus #3 is that I’m uber comfy but also satisfyingly quirky at the same time. Goes to show that with age comes great wisdom: I now feel I can confidently maintain a singular style without surrendering to pain and discomfort.

I’m celebrating my 42nd birthday today, so even though I’m at work and grading senior presentations, I’m giving myself a break and treating today like a Wordless Wednesday. If you want your regular wordy fix, why not head on over to Alex @ Undergraduate Style? I’m guest posting over there.

  1. Love the colours in your kimono, you carry off bold colours beautifully!

  2. Joyeux anniversaire! I don’t know why I’ve waited so long to follow you but I just got that under control. Haha. Also, today is my birthday so we are almost birthday twins!

Happy birthday! I will be celebrating my birthday next week, in London….

  4. Happy, happy birthday my friend! This outfit is right up my alley…a graphic tee and kimono…a girl after my own heart!

Mwahahahaha! I think reading your blog every day is affecting my style. I’m really digging the casual boho thing you’ve got going on. Perfect for summer in SoCal.

  5. Val S says:

Happy birthday! I love that outfit! I can’t believe you got that top at JCP – that’s too cool.

I hope you realize that 42 is still pretty darn young. Just don’t blink, though, because the years just keep shooting by when you’re not looking.

    • mtsedwards says:

Oh, I know it’s still young. With life expectancy the way it is right now, 40 is the new 20. But here’s something to chew on: today, a freshman asked me where I got my kimono and when I said jcp, she ingenuously says, “Oh, my grandma shops there!” Ouch! 😞

Happy Birthday! Hope the second half improved things ; )

Happy Birthday! Hope you’re having a wonderful one still. Perhaps not quite overkill, but a good dose of pattern. Yellow and blue are the best.

  8. Patti says:

Happy birthday, fellow Gem! Love the patterns and the glow on your face xox.

  9. Happy Birthday!!! I too love the combination of TARDIS blue and chartreuse; you look wonderful, Birthday Girl!

  10. Jen says:

I love the blue and chartreuse – they work well together. And have a very Happy Birthday! Hopefully you have something fun planned to celebrate.

I actually celebrated over the holiday weekend so I have no expectations for today. Which was a good thing since work really put a damper on my day. Thanks for stopping by, though. Visits from friends always makes the glass seem half full, ya know?

  11. Happy Birthday!🎉🎈🎂 (Now that I know iPhone emojis work in WordPress – watch out!)
Haha! Doctor Who may be a newer fandom for you, but it’s actually older than Star Wars. 😜
Your comment on my post today inspired my Top Five Tuesday for next week – Book Recommendations. I’ll praise some books, and those who recommended them, including YOU!

    • mtsedwards says:

Yes, but I do my best commenting on my laptop so I just copy/paste the emojis from Notes. 😜

Ah, I meant older fandom for me because I was a Star Wars fan way before I became a Whovian. I even wrote the sequel to Return of the Jedi because I felt Luke needed a more romantic ending, and that was when I was in 5th grade!

Book recommendations sound awesome. Can’t wait to see that list.

Happy birthday, sister!!! You look gorg, love you, enjoy your day!!

  13. Happy Birthday. You look 32. Have a great and blessed day.

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
