OOTD :: of tank tops, palazzos, and breaking the rules

So here I am, already breaking the rules.

But Caitlin’s challenge was too good to pass up. I mean, sure I’ve got loads of patterned skirts but I’m going to the movies today and I want to be able to get into prime movie-watching position, which for me is sitting crisscross applesauce.

Palazzo pants it is.

I’ll pick up with the Summer of Skirts on Wednesday, but if you give me leeway this one time, I promise to watch summer movies on Tuesdays and Thursdays so as not to interfere with my plans any further.

And if that’s not taking OCD to a new level, I don’t know what is. 😜

Anyhow, this week not only signals the official beginning of my summer wardrobe, it also marks the end of the road with Anne and her 52 Pick-me-up challenges. The end, that is, of her Wednesday to Wednesday scheduling. She’d mentioned moving the linkup to a more MCC-friendly Sunday to Sunday and I, for one, look forward to a new year of SpyGirl challenges.

This week, then, Anne and I present to you Groovin’ in the 60s. (Which, btw, is part of the reason for rule-breaking). According to Sammy Davis Vintage, bell bottoms – or palazzo pants – are one of the top ten ways to sport your inner hippie. I took it one step further and “burned my bra” for this look, wearing the tank top au natural and therefore eliminating unsightly straps. I also wore my new sunnies from Old Navy because I like the beachy vibe it gives the look.

My neck felt a bit bare, however, so I’d already planned to wear one of my statement necklaces, but lo and behold! What should come in the mail but my birthday present from KS #2! Lookit! Lookit! Isn’t it beeyootiful?! I thought I wanted it in silver but the gold is so much more luxe; I’m glad she didn’t listen to me and chose wisely instead.

All in all, I’m pretty pleased with my ensemble. So much so that I’m not even gonna whinge about baring arms.

Great outfit! I’m inspired to try palazzo pants with pattern 😉

  2. […] how she remixes her plaid skirt for every season, and gives tips for making pieces work year-round. Maricel rocked her palazzo pants. This might become my summer […]

  3. Well done with the palazzos. I’m trying to find the right printed fabric so I can try them out myself!

  4. Val S says:

You’re looking very groovy, baby! I need to get me more palazzo pants, especially in prints like that. You look totally cool and happenin’!

  5. Marsha Banks says:

I love this look on you! I keep toying with the idea of palazzos, but at 5′ nuthin’, I’m worried about the proportions! I’m rethinking my decision now!

    • mtsedwards says:

Oh, Marsha, you must! I’m 5’1″ so not much taller than you and if the comments are to be believed, I can do palazzos just fine. I really don’t think it’s a height thing; it’s more a proportion thing. ;p

  6. Jennie says:

Gorgeous palazzo pants! Your cute floral tank and sunnies look perfect with them. 🙂

  7. Wink n Pout says:

You completely rock! Cheers to this bold look! You’ve carried off real well!

You know, I’ve become so used to print that I never thought of this as being bold, but I just it is. Go, me! LOL.

  8. Love the pants…you look fabulous & summery!

    • mtsedwards says:

I was thinking of getting these pants hemmed so I can wear them with flats since summer is all about flats, but I guess this works too.

  9. Those palazzos are fantastic! I have yet to get in on this trend because I’m feeling a little bit too timid. I love the bold prints and pajama pant comfort but I can’t quite picture these pants on me. I know, I’m being silly, right?

    • mtsedwards says:

Not silly. Just cautious. But I encourage you to take the plunge and wear them on weekends to start. You’ll fall in love and start sporting them at school, I bet.

  10. Patti says:

You look fantastic, you rule-defier! I love palazzos right now and thanks for the link to Sammy Davis Vintage. xo

  11. As soon as I read palazzo pants in Caitlin’s post this morning, I thought of you! Love the necklace!
So, what movie are you seeing?

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
