OOTD :: of Independence Day and seminal colors

It’s a holiday week here in the good ol’ US of A so I decided a deviation from the same old, same old was called for.

To celebrate the 4th of July – America’s independence day – I shall regale my lovely readers with outfits that sport the Red, White, and Blue. In that order.

And because Greenthumb has yet to reveal her July list for my photo scavenger hunt, I’m co-opting tomorrow’s feature with an extra OOTD. This week’s for you, Marsha! 😜

Today, then, I give you red. Long-time readers know I struggle mightily with wearing this color. And of course I had to go and compound the struggle by dying my hair this indeterminate shade of perhaps brown but more than likely orange.

You would think.

But somehow – and I dunno if it’s because it’s summer and I’m more forgiving or because a lighter shade of hair just makes things all better or what – the few red things in my closet didn’t intimidate me as they used to. And this number that I’d picked up impulsively from Ross when I was Mad Hunting maxi dresses called out to me and begged to be worn.

To my credit, I did attempt a full photo session with it alone because I was trying to prove to myself that a dress is the perfect closet item in that it requires minimal thought. But I guess I’m still in work mode. Or perhaps it just hasn’t been as warm a summer as we’ve had. Regardless, I decided to style this beauty with a cropped white blazer, and that, along with my blue TARDIS watch and some bangles, really pulled the outfit together.

So sure, it’s predominantly red, but I’m trying to be all sly and sneak in some of the other colors in all my outfits. Wanna play “Where’s Waldo?” with me for the remainder of the week’s offerings?

    • I took off the blazer and the wedges, but yes. I stay in these all day. Might as well get some use out of them, right?

    • Funny you say this because I was just reading an article about bloggers and posing and I was gonna write my own response about my personal opinions regarding this. I actually pretend to tell myself jokes so I can laugh naturally. They say a true smile only lasts for one second; anything after that looks fake and contrived. Also, the winds help add a bit of pizazz. Oh, and I have a full-length mirror propped up so I can gauge if my poses are too risque/odd/unflattering. There is a process… ;p

  2. Why is it everyone says they love the color red, but not too many women actually want to wear it? I think it’s because there are so many different shades of this (to me anyhoo) bold color. Once I figured out “my” red, I’ve actually bought more than a few things in red! In fact, my latest eyeshadow purchase is red!

I think you look marvelous in red, and I’d give up…well, something wonderful…for your hair!

I’m inching ever closer to this wonderful world of blogging. And then, I read this and realize exactly what I don’t know!

Eeek! Any suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated!

    • You did not buy red eyeshadow?! You go with your bold self! 😀 Now you definitely need to start a blog coz me wants to see that!

I’m so glad my hair finally came together, color-wise and all. But I should probably refrain form saying that’s me without having styled it at all – it automatically looks like that when I wake up in the morning. Huzzah to good genes and a fabulous haircut, eh?

Don’t read those blog advice things. They’ll stymie you and then you’ll get stuck in petrified inertia. I say just pick a free platform (Blogger or WP), choose a theme, decide on a schedule/focus/theme, and start writing! The rest will fall into place. I know mine did. Then again, I am an inveterate list/goal maker.

    • Glad to have made it, Patti. Notice I didn’t link until the triple-digit mark? ‘Tis what happens in the summer when I get to sleep in and am probably the last in the time zone circuit, eh?

    • Aww, Connie! No one’s ever told me my hair was fireworks before! That’s probably one of the more unique compliments I’ve gotten. Will put that in the “feel good” jar for sure!

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
