5 Things :: Willy Wonka’s got nuthin’ on these

I was going to do a follow-up to last week’s 5 Things since I got so many suggestions for summer movies.

But then my son walked in with a box of Whoppers and, unsolicited, offered me a few. And not only did my mother’s heart get all warm and fuzzy (how low have my expectations sunk that a mere offer of chocolate from my pre-teen son makes me giddy?) but it also gave me an idea for this week’s topic.

Because sure, movies are great but everyone knows it’s the yummy goodness you eat at the movies that makes the experience all the more brilliant. Now, I rarely go out to the theatre anymore, what with movies heading immediately to Netflix/iTunes/On Demand, and what with our monstrous TV and all. But I can still buy me some movie candy, right?

Here, then, are the sweets I filled up my Target cart with in preparation for a slothful weekend in front of the tube:

  1. Hot Tamales
  2. Nerds
  3. Whoppers
  4. Lemonheads
  5. Twix bites

As you can see, we like a nice combo of sweet and sour and hot. Also, we take into consideration texture and have a good balance of chewy and crunchy. Yes, we are deadly serious about our movie snacking in my household. What are your fave snack-y things when you go to the movies?

Week in review – Awesomely orchid, but can you spot the glitch in this triptych?

  1. I’ll disappoint on this one, I’m sure. I don’t know any of the treats you’re talking about. Movie theatre….nada, nothing, rarely, if ever, buy anything. Okay, very, very occasionally have been known to buy a box of chocolate covered raisins, but seriously haven’t done that for years and years. If calories weren’t an issue, a home video night would be made more delicous with Barbara’s Jalapeno cheese puffs and/or SmartFood Cheddar popcorn! I’m coming after you if either of these end up in my grocery cart…just sayin’.

Oh, you crazy Canadian! Really? Not even Twix? I’d love to go to your neck of the woods if only to browse your candy aisles! But yes, I don’t purchase concessions at the theatre – too pricey for my pocketbook. I guess i should’ve qualified that I bought all these snacks at the grocery store for home consumption. 😀

      • haha…in defense of the non-crazy Canadians, I would guess that these confections are available in Canada? But, I am really not a chocolate bar kinda gal. At Hallowe’en I used to give out the mini chocolate bars…Reese’ peanut butter cups, Aero, Mars Bar, O’Henry, and my fav, Kit Kat.

        • mtsedwards says:

Oh, Kit Kats come a close second for me after Twix. Yum! But Twix have that caramel filling that slows down my munching so I don’t eat as much of it as I would Kit Kats.

Any sort of crisps will do for me. Plus I really like the sweet and salty popcorn combo.
Wow, your coloured outfits are beautiful!!! X

Oh, I love a box of Runts or Nerds, but the best thing for me when watching any movie is plain ol’ buttery popcorn and a soda! That and a scary movie, and I’m a happy girl!

  4. Lorelei Ortega says:

I’m with you on 1,2, and 4. Think my others would be Snickers and Butterfingers.

  5. Patti says:

    Hot pretzel with mustard!

  6. Junior Mints are our go-to. We all love chocolate and mint, and they’re made in a peanut free factory which makes them worry free for my little girl. They’re very refreshing!

I guess I’m just not a mint kinda gal. My family thinks I’m weird for not liking the Thin Mints come Girl Scout season.

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
