OOTD :: of back to ye old grind, free love and juxtaposition

So here we are, folks. Back to your regularly scheduled broadcast.

I’m still toying with retaining some of my Summer Edition features, but for now, let’s call it status quo. This means 5 days of OOTDs and this week promises to be a challenging one.

I find it hilarious that my first day back on the job (sans kids, but I still had to wake up at the ungodly hour of 7am) coincides with Anne’s Woodstock Nation theme. Because getting back to ye old grind and making alivig is so counter to the whole free love/free spirit notion of the 60s, yeah? I may be speaking out of turn here since that was a bit before my time, and perhaps my concept of Woodstock is tainted by Hollywood, but I’m safe to make that assumption. I think.

How, then, does one reconcile two diametrically opposed ideologies in clothing? Well, you know what they say: what comes around goes around, and that’s especially true in fashion. The hippie vibe is alive and well today, only we’ve given it a new spin by calling it “boho chic”. And so, with the help of my boyfriend Google and Pinterest, I was able to throw together my interpretation of this style niche.

Keep in mind that I scored really low in this category and I thought I’d be hard-pressed in coming up with outfits this week. Surprisingly, though, I have all the disparate elements and it was simply a matter of finding the perfect combinations. Today’s offering utilizes the color palette (oranges, browns, olives), ubiquitous chevron, and loose cuts and shapes of the time but keeps it current with the cut-out detailing of the faux leather skirt and the peep toe bootie.

I know I’ll definitely be way too dressed up for staff meetings and conferences today, but I think I’ve succeeded in finding my inner flower child.

  1. love how you styled this outfit… and i’m really digging your shoes! ❤

also… agreed that 7 am is an ungoldy hour. i work 45 minutes away, technically have to be at work by 830 am… meaning i have to be up at 6 am. rarely happens.

  2. Damn, girl. When you juxtapose, you really juxtapose with some supers skills. Great outfit … swoon-worthy skirt, especially. You’d have knocked them out way back in the day, and I can speak with absolute authority on that!

    • Well, it was conflict resolution training so all I had to do was sit passively and listen. Sigh. I’d much rather have had the time to work in my room and set it to rights.

    • Thanks! I had loads of people coming up to me wanting to touch it, which is weird coz I’ve worn it before. I guess paired with a matching vibe top really brings out its festival flair, eh?

    • Yep. I’m thinking I can pair it with black tights in the winter now that I’m over the whole black and brown taboo. Always an honor when you stop by, Jess.

  3. As a child of the seventies…heck…the sixties, too…you nailed this! I had a top or two in this print…I think it resembles Bargello needlepoint…and the skirt is a great way to make it now! Maybe, I need to visit the local F21 and just pretend I’m shopping for someone else!

    • Well, the skirt was a last-season purchase but I believe the top could still be available. And yay for authenticity!

    • I know, right? It’s just been too hot to wear anything else. Don’t worry – I’ll be sporting some pants this week to break the monotony.

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
