OOTD :: of loose interpretations and disgusting heat

After a week of badassery, I guess it’s only fitting I give you more color and feminine fun.

I swear, I fear my students think me schizophrenic with my weekly outfits, eh?

But it’s really all Anne’s fault. Last week was Go Grunge and this week is Happy Hibiscus; think she did that juxtaposition on purpose?

No matter, you all know I’m a slave to routine and challenges and I shall not stray from my purpose, so hibiscus it is.

Of course, not being a plant person as well as being infamous for killing all things vegetative, I had to Google “hibiscus” and then almost threw up my hands in despair when I saw it was that ubiquitous Hawaiian flower that surfers and VW beetles proudly call their own. Not being of that ilk, I knew I didn’t have a single thing in my closet but I also knew I was only on Day 36 of my Spending Fast – DAY 36! ARGH! – so I couldn’t exactly buy hibiscus products.

Enter creative interpretation and more remixing fun. This is a floral print dress. Hibiscuses are flowers. Therefore I am calling this dress hibiscus-esque and considering myself Pick-me-up challenge compliant. (Now we all know why I never joined debate.)

Anyhoozle, more shouts out to Aly’s bedroom. It is once again hosting this week’s photo shoot but as of this writing, the weather is turning cooler so perhaps we’ll be back to natural light and outdoor shots next week. Would you mind if I kept it indoors, though? Having the indoor option makes me feel less pressured and anxious about blogging in inclement weather, but I’d rather not post at all than give you shoddy work. Lemme know, k?

Awwwh …. Yeah! I like it, and it’s really very hybiscussy! Anne will be pleased. You are so pretty in it. That’s what’s fun about wardrobe diving. My semi-fast will begin soon, enforced by the inevitable winter slow down at the restaurant. But I’m still wishing for great values on the Lust List I’m compiling. Shoes, mostly, and so far some tees and my pink coat, of course! I really love recombining pieces, and am looking forward to wearing some summer pieces in wintry ways this year, just to add to the badassery!

It’s just starting to cool off a little wee bit here, and hope it cools off there and that you get lots of rain soon.

I’ve got to get to you Who post soon … I’m so far behind. Thank you for doing it!

So something happened at work this week and I have abandoned my self-imposed dress challenge because I’m definitely needing to channel my badass. I did manage to stick to my planned wardrobe through Wednesday then I just broke down and had to do black snakeskin skinnies and thigh high boots on Thursday. But at least you all get the hibiscus outfits I’d already photographed.

Can’t wait to see that pink coat!

Well, you’ve got the hibiscus vibe because the print looks sort of Hawaiian. And very pretty too! I love the green cardi with it.

You can take pictures wherever you want – it’s your blog. I’m just amazed that you have an expanse of wall with nothing on it and no furniture! So minimal.

    • mtsedwards says:

Ah, not my expanse of wall; ’tis Aly’s and the only reason there’s no artwork is because the hubs hates holes in wall and compromised by putting up that wire thingie that Aly uses to hang up her crafty things. And her craft table is on wheels and easily moved out of view.

  3. Oh, you are a vision today! Very pretty look Maricel! I started doing indoor photos this past winter when it was just too inclement (like that word?) for taking pictures in the great outdoors. At the time I had been sewing spring/summer clothing and was literally turning freakish colours while modeling bare armed in near 0 celsius temps. It was such a relief to shoot indoors, and I actually had a lot more fun…and blogging should be fun…so I will definitely do it again. Sounds like it makes you happy to take photos indoors sometimes too! So do that!

Love “inclement”. I feel so smart when I use it. And yes, anything to make blogging more fun is aces in my book. And I’m a bear when the weather bites, so I guess it’s good I have an alternate location.

  4. You totally rocked the grunge but I am definitely a lover of feminine clothes…I LOVE this dress and can’t wait to see what you come up with for the rest of the week!

Saved by the spending ban! (What discipline you have : > ) this is a lovely look and thanks for sharing it with Visible Monday, xox.

  6. Hibiscus-esque is hard to say. 😛

Aren’t you glad you’re on a spending fast? Otherwise you would’ve bought 5 days worth of hibiscus stuff that would’ve only been worn this week. Think how much money you saved!

I agree with Anne – the indoor lighting is fine.

    • mtsedwards says:

So very true. On both accounts. Because yes, I probably would’ve scoured eBay for hibiscus thing. You know me so well!

And with the money I saved, d’you think I could buy an anime series for $25? Or does that count toward a spending fast?

      • I don’t know – was it ALL spending or just clothes / accessories?

        • mtsedwards says:

Right? I don’t know either. I think it was borne of my broken closet organizer and the financial rewards were just residual benefits. But I have found myself becoming more miserly with my money since the fast’s inception, so maybe I should include ALL spending? That might make me go slightly unhinged, though…

  7. Anne the SpyGirl says:

Very pretty! Your indoor location is fine. Thanks for linking!

    • mtsedwards says:

Always a pleasure, my friend. And thanks for the vote of confidence regarding the indoor location. Might not work when it’s rainy and/or overcast but it’s perfect for when it’s hot.

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
