OOTD :: of not yet giving up the dress-over-pants thing

There’s something very art teacher chic about this ensemble.

Perhaps it’s the frock masquerading as a smock.

Perhaps it’s the skinnies cheekily cuffed to reveal a brilliant scarlet underpinning.

Perhaps it’s the crisp white button down or the hair in the bun.

Regardless, I decided to go for it today in celebration of Anne’s Pick-me-up theme of the week: Lovin’ My Layers. And even if the weather changes its mind and heads up to the 80s by week’s end, I’m still gonna pile on the clothing in inventive and hopefully stylish ways.

Because it’s. about. time. for. fall.

(Oh, and we’re back to taking pics with shadows this week because layers + hot weather = grumpy me and I didn’t want to subject my family to that so I did my photo shoot in the am rather than the pm. I think you all can deal, yeah?)

Why on earth should you want to give up such a cool look? It’s still very cool, you know, especially the way you’ve done it here! And this is one of the best ways I’ve ever seen it done. As a card carrying member of the artsy-fartsy contingent, this is way better than most art teachers ever achieve.
Really, I love it so much and I’m dying here that I don’t have a smocky dress!

  2. I love this! Dresses over pants are the look I struggle with the most but I love it so. This is wonderful & I am going to try to copy!

This looks great, I would love to try this! 🙂

  4. I’m LOVING the red pops on the cuffs of your pants. What fun!

Thanks! I had trouble styling these pants initially because they were too long to scrunch so I decided to be brave and embrace that red lining. Glad it paid off.

  5. Not many people could pull this look off, but you wear it beautifully.

It was a total inspired moment because this dress on its own and belted was a bit too poofy and stiff but works wonders as a smock. And thanks for making me feel daring and unique in my style choices. 😀 You always know the right things to say.

You are indeed arty-chic, and I love, love this layered look. Great skinnies, xox.

I’m just glad I still fit in them. I had to do a serious skinnies cull recently and many did not make the final cut. :/

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
