OOTD :: of old dogs and new tricks

When the Phillip Lim collab at Target came out, I was smitten by its eclectic whimsy. I mean, think of it: leopard print and Japanese print and Lichtenstein-esque print all in one collection? I had to have it all.

Unfortunately, reality reared its ugly head and I was forced to return pretty much everything I purchased online because, in person, the items simply weren’t doing my bod any favors. The one piece I kept was the Japanese print top because Japanese, but I knew I was pigeon-holing myself with it. After all, it’s such a distinctive print that I knew I’d only really want to wear it once a season, this limiting its CPW quotient.

(Yep, I did a search on myself and found only one instance of my wearing the top. For shame, me!)

But my fellow Target buddy, Jan @ Fort Smith Stylista, has shown me the ways of the Japanese print Jedi by styling this top multiple times and every time she does so, I feel guilty and ashamed that I’ve relegated mine to the back of the closet.

Well, little buddy, it’s time to shine once again!

I thought to pair you with pale pink skinnies to pick up on the pink cherry blossoms of the print but it’s winter and I’m still feeling the back-to-work blahs, so perhaps I’ll save that pairing for the spring, giving me another opportunity to style you, yeah? Instead, this time around, how about partying it up with a fun, pleated, paperbag waist skirt?

You go, Glenn Coco!
