OOTD :: of going back to basics

The best thing about Whitney and Alex’s Blogging Besties linkup is that it constantly reminds me to go back to my roots. That is, when creating an outfit, think of the bones and not the fluff.

When I started blogging and I had yet to discover linkups and challenges, I spent many hours perusing Pinterest. But I also had another helpful resource: my daily StyleUp email. It was this great service that took into consideration your style profile and your current local weather. How awesome is that?

Sadly, I stopped relying on StyleUp when I started planning my outfits weeks in advance, and I think my not responding to their emails (it works like social media in that you have to rate your daily picks) got me dropped from the service. Ah, well. I still think fondly of it, and one of the great things about it is exactly what Whitney and Alex give me: a breakdown of the elements of the outfit for potential replication.

Take this week, for instance. The gals offered up “a fit and flare dress, a mustard cardigan, brown tights, cognac riding boots, a pendant necklace, bangle bracelets, the color plum and lace”, and simply spelling it out like that helped me think up an outfit lickety-split. Can you guess which element I chose to pass on?

Vive le vendredi!

    • I’m glad you like it that way. I’m do due for a haircut but have not found the time and pulling it back is all I can think to do to style it right now.

    • Needed an umbrella Tuesday and Wednesday but it was all clear today. And yes, I am so grateful for this cooler weather. Finally, my sweaters can come out to play.

  1. You are just so wonderful! Thanks so much for being a loyal linker-upper! I agree with Selah that it’s fun to see how many different looks we can get from the same formula of elements. This is a perfectly festive holiday outfit. that scarf looks so cozy!

    • Festive? Really? It’s the red pants, isn’t it? ;p

I do love the scarf – it’s super soft and colorful – but it sure does shed.

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
