OOTD :: of playing it down and center stage

It is not about the dress (which is black and basic and only distinguishes itself by being an unwrinkable jersey). Nor is it about the cardi (which is brilliantly TARDIS blue and was an extra Christmas prezzie from my mum who finally figured out that this is my fave color). It’s not even about the infinity scarf (which is huge and furry and two-toned and seems to want to command your undivided by being the obvious statement piece).

No, my friends, it’s all about the shoes.

I had these flats commissioned from a student last year who, at the time, was doing all kinds of fun art projects on her own and turning them in to me for extra credit (Can we say wooden tablets hand-burned to look like the 10 Commandments, only these were the 10 commandments of satire? Yeah, it’s like that!)

Anyhoozle, my thoughts turned immediately mercenary when I noticed her skill, and I half-jokingly asked if she painted shoes. When she responded with the affirmative, I showed her a pic from Etsy and a bespoke pair of flats was born!

Sadly, the paint she used has a tendency to chip off, so I can’t wear these as regularly as I want, which is why it has taken them so long to be featured here. But they had been calling to me for quite some time, and now that TARDIS Tuesday has become an official “thing”, I felt they deserved a day in the sun.

Kept it simple up top to showcase these babies. Would’ve saved the blue cardi for another Tuesday but the black dress was just too basic for my now-spoiled-from-pattern-mixing eye. And my neck was cold. But still playing it down – for me, anyway – so the shoes can take center stage.

Have you got an item you’d like to show off today?

  3. Oh my!!!!! I saw similar shoes on Etsy and have been toying for a while with making my own (they have TARDIS blue pumps in Primark) but the fact that they are odd is AWESOME!!!!!
Linking when I finish my dinner (just watching Season 5 on DVD whilst I chomp!)x

    • Oooh, are you marathoning or rewatching fave episodes?

And you must explain more this Primark thing. It sounds magical…

      • I confess, that I didn’t get a digi-box when they turned off the analogue TV signal in England so I actually didn’t get to see the Matt Smith episodes, a lot of them as I didn’t have a TV PLUS I spent many Saturday nights out with my husband so I have only seen about 4 pre-Clara Matt Smith episodes so my Christmas present this year from my inlaws was all the Matt Smith series!!!x
Primark is purely just a cheap clothes shop like Target maybe? It stocks lots of cheap clothes. I don’t like going there too much but it has the odd gem, including cobalt coloured ballet pumps!x

    • Sadly, it started crackling along the edges so I may have to retire these after one wearing and use them simply as display. Sigh.

    • I didn’t feel too swirly in it because the dress’ jersey is actually pretty heavy. I guess the Fontana winds just got a good gust going in this photo shoot. ;p

  4. Please publish the 10 Commandments of Satire! Inquiring minds must know!

Those shoes!!!! Exhibit them on a pedestal!

    • They’re actually not 10 commandments per se. They were just 10 techniques to convey satire and she made them out to be mandates. Clever girl.

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
