OOTD :: of personal bests and favorite quotes

This week is brought to you by: “a fit and flare dress, an open cardigan, colored tights, riding boots, navy stripes, the color teal, a bow belt and cognac accessories”.

For your viewing pleasure, I give you: the cardigan, colored tights (cognac, no less!), a pseudo fit and flare dress, and some stripes (albeit not navy).

The detailed bits: I really do have a fit and flare striped dress and I did plan on wearing it today. Unfortunately, in my haste to make good use of the waning sunlight and take one last outfit pictorial, I grabbed this swing dress instead. Yes, I am slightly ashamed that I own two dresses of the exact same pattern that I could mistake one for the other in my closet.

Then I tried to mitigate the swing cut by throwing on the cardi – you gotta love the mesh sleeves that allow the stripes to show through! – hardly remembering then happily grateful that an open cardi was part of the list. Woots!

Colored tights would’ve been blue, of course, but the sun was sinking and my blue tights were too up high in my closet, so cognac ones from my sock drawer had to suffice. Luckily, I also owned cognac – erm, burgundy? – Chucks, so I figured serendipity was at work here.

At the last minute, I grabbed one of my new necklaces – custom made with my favorite Shakespearean quote of all time by another Etsy seller I was working with (link to her shop below). I ran down the stairs, out to the backyard, and snapped a total of ten outfit shots before the gloom overcame me.

In sum, the creating, putting on, setting up and photographing of this entire outfit took all of ten minutes, a personal best for me. And I have Whitney and Alex to thank for making the first half of that process all the easier and simpler with their faboo linkup.

Vive le vendredi!

  1. You look supremely cool. So much so I might just have to try tights with my Chucks and/or slip on sneaks. Oh, and there’s no shame in having similar items in your closet. After all, they are similar…not identical. 🙂
You asked about the fit on the Hue faux leather leggings. I normally wear a 2 in pants and I got them in a small and they are fabulous, so I guess that would make them true to size.

You are teeny tiny! Maybe it’s a good thing we aren’t neighbors then; I’d be coveting your closet contents but bemoaning the fact that I can’t fit in them to borrow. ;p And yes, tights with Chucks ftw. I wonder if that means I ought to go to Target and buy tights in every color now?

I really like it!!! The necklace is just super!!! Your photos are always adorable x

I am currently harboring a hankering for these made-to-order necklaces and my mind is fair brimming with ideas for more. As you mentioned and I concur – I don’t do things by halves. 😀

  3. chessakat says:

Soooooo cute. I can’t believe you have tights that match your chucks! I bow down before you in awe!

    • mtsedwards says:

I didn’t know I had them either. They must’ve been relics from a previous time in my fashion life when I wore colored tights. Just goes to show that what goes around comes around. Or is that the other way? Argh. English is not my first language…

  4. I’m loving the stripes with the colored tights with the chucks! It’s so fun to see how you interpret the inspiration outfit every week. By the way, I think I need a striped swing dress. Just sayin’.

  5. Val S says:

I need a dress like that – at least one. Something simple to throw on that will do for work (if I have any) or coffee or a movie. Cognac anything always adds a touch of class. and your necklace is beautiful! Such a positive affirmation. ;p Have a good weekend!

Burgundy chucks AND a Shakespeare quote? We should SO be friends! 🙂

I know, right?! Hip teachers, unite! Always a pleasure joining in with fledgling linkups. Makes me feel like a pioneer! 😉

  7. Cute! Gotta love when things work out like that!

  8. I’m wearing very similar stripes today:)

  9. jenortega says:

Wow! Seems like this outfit choice was serendipitous! Never knew that was your favorite Shakespearean quote. It certainly fits your feelings of late ; )

    • mtsedwards says:

Oh, it’s always been my fave Shakespeare quote. Infinitely more apropos than “To be or not to be”, which seems to be the default for most non-English major folk.

  10. Well dang, I should’ve included a cardigan and worn Chucks so we could be twinsies! I had planned to wear Chucks but they were downstairs and I was upstairs. :/ LAZY!

    • mtsedwards says:

Twinsies!!! I know, right? When I clicked on your link this morning, that was exactly what I was thinking. But you had me beat with your blue legs. I really ought to put my things more at Maricel height, don’t I?

  11. Anne the SpyGirl says:

I really like the look without the sweater. The proportions would be better served with a waist length cardigan. The burgundy legs + feets? Swoon! Getting it all together in 10 minutes = A+.

    • mtsedwards says:

Ah, but my waist-length cardis were high up on the shelf. ;p I do agree with you regarding proportion, however, which is why I didn’t go out in public in this. Today, with a little bit more time, I was able to find the fit and flare version of this dress and coupled it with a black turtleneck for warmth. The burgundy legs and feets stayed, of course. Huzzah for Chucks!

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
