OOTD :: of amaryllis, comfy shoes, and totally Target

I gotta hand it to Anne – in the year and a half that I’ve been regularly participating in her 52 Pick-me-up challenges, she has totally expanded my flora horizons. I never knew there were so many types of flowers and colors out there. A gardener I am not.

Still, there is something to be said about gaining inspiration from nature. This week, it’s the jaunty amaryllis that Anne has tasked as with, and I was immediately captivated by its sunburst shape. I was less enamored of the varieties of colors it comes in because its primarily a tomato red flower and that hue does not work well with my skin tone.

Thank goodness for Google. I plucked out the lone fuchsia image and created my outfit around it. This blazer had been begging to be worn for quite some time and I finally decided to listen to its pleas. As most of you know, I like tonality, so the top was an easy no-brainer of a choice since it matched the color of the blazer almost as if they came as a set.

The bottoms proved slightly more problematic, but in keeping with the whole flower theme, I chose my brocade skinnies that look grey in the above pics but are actually a lovely, subtle shade of olive in real life, kinda lie mimicking a stem, n’est-ce pas?

Of course, it wouldn’t be me without a bit of juxtaposition. So the formality of the blazer and the femininity of the blouse is countered by the funky toughness of a pair of purple oxfords. Add a cheeky photobomber and Monday’s pictorial is complete.

It was only after I started putting in the facts that I realized three quarters of my entire ensemble came from Target. They really ought to hire me as their marketing rep.

OOTD :: of emerald green and Windsor knots

This week is brought to you by: “striped shirt, cardigan, skinny dress pants, emerald green, camel, ballet flats, and a leather handbag”.

For your viewing pleasure, I give you: the cardigan and emerald green, the latter of which I am particularly proud because, as long-time readers know, I have often struggled with the dearth of said color in my wardrobe. Happily, in my quest to own a pair of Chucks in every single color of the rainbow, I have just recently acquired these emerald green beauties and I am thrilled to have an opportunity to show them off today.

The extra bits: I have also recently rediscovered my penchant for ties, the catalyst of this rediscovery being the 12th grade maths teacher, the only staff member at my site who actually wears ties and who taught me how to do up a proper Windsor. When I put together this outfit, I felt there was something missing, even with the cardi as completer piece. I tried a statement necklace, but it just got lost in the busy pattern of the shirt. Enter my fave Vivienne Westwood tie, stage right. Et voilà! Success! It picked up the navy in the shirt and bookended the navy of the skinnies and thus I am able to get away with pattern mixing once again.

Vive le vendredi!

Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.

Hullo, Wordless Wednesday!

Here’s to winterizing spring florals because there really is no such thing as a real winter in SoCal and I can get away with wearing something so flimsy with only a strategic use of black.
