OOTD :: of starting the week off with a bang

So in the practically two years I’ve been doing this blogging gig now, I noticed I’ve fallen into some interesting, albeit unintentional, habits.

One of them is starting off the work week with my dressiest outfit. It must be a subconscious Monday thing. You know the feeling: unless you work weekends or have attended some sort of special affair, Saturdays and Sundays are usually relegated to sweats and tees and that embarrassing tunic/leggings/fuzzy slippers ensemble that is reminiscent of you in college circa 1993. You live in the epitome of casual comfort. So by the time Sunday evening comes rolling around, you really aren’t in the mood to face the world, let alone face the world of work.

Clothes have become my armor of sorts and Mondays in particular demand a ramped-up version of my usual style aesthetic, if only to protect myself fro the slings and arrows of circumstance. I subconsciously gravitate toward the most dressy, most “formal” outfit I’d created the weekend before.

Any of you feel that way? Or am I the only crazy one again?

Regardless, here’s a dressy number for you. I love the ornate pattern of this top. (I probably should’ve saved it for Anne’s Baroque week in March but perhaps that’ll just force me to style it differently then.) And I love how the colors in it pretty much screamed to be paired with this purple – purple, Selah! – skater skirt that had previously been a lone wolf in my closet. I swear there’s purple in that top. Just look closer.

I didn’t realize, of course, that pairing the two together would make it look less daytime office and more cocktail after hours, but once on, I couldn’t not wear it. Plus, ask me how often I go to cocktails after hours? Yeah. Never. So I threw on a black blazer and opaque tights and convinced myself that I was now more appropriately dressed.

Just help me lie to myself, okay?
