So Aly has told me in no uncertain terms that I must clear out the staging area of my bathroom before I can make any more outfits.
And to be quite clear, the “staging area” is not as glamorous as it sounds. It’s really just my stand-in shower’s glass doors upon which I hook magic hangers full of pre-made outfits.
Today’s outfit, then, was created a while back and makes use of a couple of outcasts that ended up looking lovely together although they were destined to be closet orphans and/or discarded otherwise.
Case in point #1: the dress. Purchased last August and part of my Forever 21 crisis, it had been in a sack ready to be donated since that day and I’d honestly forgotten about it. I’d toyed with selling it – still had tags on – but ennui is a demanding mistress and I just never got around to it.
Then, around three months ago, I discovered Poshmark. One of my initial negotiations ended up with my owning this cheetah print coat, case in point #2. I won’t regale you with the gory details, but suffice to say, I hadn’t wanted it but I got it as a consolation prize and I probably paid too much for it and was a bit disappointed when I received it because it wasn’t as heavy or substantial as I’d expected it to be.
What do these two disparate things have in common? Well, both the dress and the coat were unwanted pieces that were on their way to being someone else’s problem. But because I am a pack rat and because sometimes, inspiration does strike, I paired them together on a whim et voilà! Instant love.
I do think, though, that the entire outfit is saved by key elements that were part of my wardrobe anyway. The OTK boots you all know I adore and will probably be the first pair of shoes I wear to death. And the addition of that statement necklace elevates the look even more.
Big bonus: the cheetah print is reminiscent of dots, which is Anne’s 52 Pick-me-up topic of the week.
Oh, happy day!
