OOTD :: of dots, Poshmark, and almost culled

So Aly has told me in no uncertain terms that I must clear out the staging area of my bathroom before I can make any more outfits.

And to be quite clear, the “staging area” is not as glamorous as it sounds. It’s really just my stand-in shower’s glass doors upon which I hook magic hangers full of pre-made outfits.

Today’s outfit, then, was created a while back and makes use of a couple of outcasts that ended up looking lovely together although they were destined to be closet orphans and/or discarded otherwise.

Case in point #1: the dress. Purchased last August and part of my Forever 21 crisis, it had been in a sack ready to be donated since that day and I’d honestly forgotten about it. I’d toyed with selling it – still had tags on – but ennui is a demanding mistress and I just never got around to it.

Then, around three months ago, I discovered Poshmark. One of my initial negotiations ended up with my owning this cheetah print coat, case in point #2. I won’t regale you with the gory details, but suffice to say, I hadn’t wanted it but I got it as a consolation prize and I probably paid too much for it and was a bit disappointed when I received it because it wasn’t as heavy or substantial as I’d expected it to be.

What do these two disparate things have in common? Well, both the dress and the coat were unwanted pieces that were on their way to being someone else’s problem. But because I am a pack rat and because sometimes, inspiration does strike, I paired them together on a whim et voilà! Instant love.

I do think, though, that the entire outfit is saved by key elements that were part of my wardrobe anyway. The OTK boots you all know I adore and will probably be the first pair of shoes I wear to death. And the addition of that statement necklace elevates the look even more.

Big bonus: the cheetah print is reminiscent of dots, which is Anne’s 52 Pick-me-up topic of the week.

Oh, happy day!

  1. !!! I’m reduced to wordlessness. You are part magic, to pull this ridiculously cute outfit from castoffs. And I continue to swoon over those OTK boots!

    • Oh, wow! You’re right. And I have so few of these fuchsia pieces too. Perhaps I should hang on to this dress if only to represent the color in my closet.

    • Ah, that’s high praise. Peanut butter and jelly is practically incomparable. Thanks for stopping by, Jodie! 🙂

  2. How great that you created an outfit in which you love these unwanted pieces as opposed to just a mediocre creation. Do you think you have enough other combinations that you will love as well to warrant keeping these pieces?

  3. I also serve the mistress ennui. “I can sell it on eBay” – then, “Donating would be a social good”. You look fab, the combo is a stunner. xox

    • She is harsh, is she not? And yes, I’m about ready to go the “social good” route with a sack of clothes as we speak.

  4. Validation for hoarding! Score!
I have a huge pile ready to get their moment on Poshmark or Etsy. And a VERY SPECIAL pile for YOU!
Thanks for linking. The Pick-me-up is so much more perky with you there.

    • Lady, why are you up so early in the morning?! I have to be but certainly not you?

My obsession with Poshmark has been waning lately because I’m doing far too much shopping and not any selling. Sigh…

Ooooh, special pile! Can’t wait to dive right in! April can’t come too soon! 😀

      • This was actually a “late” morning for me. Up at 5am vs 4am. (You never noticed?)
It’s when I get my creative and personal stuff done before hitting the commute. That way, I resent The Commute less. My most creative time is the AM.
To get to work by 9am, I must have my sandwich for lunch building started by 6am. Then breakfast, shower, etc. Out the door by 7:50. It’s a finely tuned schedule. You know how that is.

        • I have noticed – especially your sunrise pics on Instagram – but I guess I just never made the connection. You’re a morning person like the hubs! >.< I don't understand you people but I am certainly in awe of you. I'm a shameless night owl and surprise myself everyday that I can function in a morning person world.

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
