OOTD :: of edgy pattern mixing and style zen

This week is brought to you by: “cozy cardigan, printed tank, solid scarf, skinny jeans, loafers/moccasins, florals, and suede”.

For your viewing pleasure, I give you: the printed tank, solid scarf, skinny jeans, and florals.

The extra bits: While folks in the fashion blogoverse are working on de-winterizing their wardrobe in a self-fulfilling-prophecy attempt to make spring come that much faster, my own focus is on rock-star-izing my wardrobe in order to breathe new life in old pieces.

While I’m quite captivated with the idea of whimsical juxtaposition as my new style niche, and am having fun coming up with quirky pairings, one thing that remains a constant is the addition of an item that has an edgy, punk/rock vibe to it. I think this is due, in part, to my obsession with Chucks.

Because Chucks = anti-establishment in my book.

That said, I was quite pleased with Alex’s Blogging Besties challenge this week because it afforded me the opportunity to play with florals. I have a ton of floral items from back when I was playing at feminine and flirty, but now they are scanning too fem and flirty for my current aesthetic. I didn’t have the heart to get rid of them, though, so something had to be done.

Enter today’s ensemble, stage right. The graffiti-esque print of the grey tank grounds the pastel florals of the skinnies. The structured shoulder of the blazer balances out the billowy-ness of the tank. The infinity scarf adds visual color and bookends the yellow tones on the pants while its bulk and heft contribute to the grunge sensibility.

I do believe I have achieved zen.

Vive le vendredi!
