T3 :: of anime redux and Psycho-Pass

picstitch(52)Let’s face it – between work and mommy-dom, there’s little time for extracurricular activities.

But I try. Boy, howdy I try! Not only have I kept up with this blogging gig – thanks in no small part to you, gentle reader, for keeping me accountable – but I have also managed to juggle my other hobbies, if only by making them take turns in the rotation because there’s not enough time in the day for all of them at once.

So I knit in the winter, read during the stolen 20 minutes of SSR at the beginning of each class period, clear out my DVR over the weekends, and stay up till the wee hours every day to pound out a new chapter or three of my novel. On a good week, I manage to do all of these fairly regularly and I’m the better for it.

An oldie but goodie hobby that I thought I’d long outgrown was anime. I used to be obsessed. By last count, I’ve watched 131 titles (85 TV series, 18 OVAs, 23 Movies, 4 Specials, 2,242 Episodes). That’s a lot of viewing time invested. And I used to take my obsession “on the road”, so to speak, by teaching an elective for two years and also by being adviser to the Asian Cultures Anime Club off and on for sixteen years. Off and on being the operative term.

But now, after five years of hiatus, I’m baaaack! Thanks to my Intrepid TA #3, who’d been at me for two years to watch this particular title, I am now head over heels obsessed with anime again. In the last month alone, I’ve already finished 4 series and am well into my 5th. I am most definitely “marathon- watching” these shows. And because I refuse to watch them dubbed, I am also “reading” these shows’ subtitles. And since this month’s T3 challenge was Marching On, I guess you can say it was a no-brainer what I was choosing to base my outfit on today.

Psycho-pass is a sci-fi/action cop drama set in future alternate Japan, where

 it is possible to instantaneously measure and quantify a person’s state of mind and personality. This information is recorded and processed, and the term “Psycho-Pass” refers to a standard used to measure an individual’s being. The story centers around the “enforcement officer” Shinya Kougami, who is tasked with managing crime in such a world.

The main characters wear a lot of black and are all pretty badass, and the males (and one female) look super snazzy in their ties.

It was a perfect excuse to wear unrelieved black and bust out my Vivienne Westwood tie collection. I am kicking ass and taking names today, folks, and I make no apologies.

So what say you? Was that a twist to T3 or what? See how inspiration can come from anything you read? And since we’re a literate, multimedia society, your inspiration doesn’t necessarily have to be literary, eh?

Now it’s your turn to share. What have you been reading/sloggin through this month that has inspired a sartorial choice? Do tell…
