Won’t Go Home Without You by Maroon 5

But wait! We interrupt our regularly scheduled non-text summer blog post to do a feature on my very first blogger meet-up.

Last Friday, the stars finally settled and allowed me to have lunch in Claremont with my fashion BFF, Anne of SpyGirl fame. This is Anne of the fabulous 52 Pick-me-up challenges. Anne who honored me by choosing my outfit as a subject for one of her brilliant sketches and which I use as my avatar to this day. Anne who traveled across the country and made Waterlogues of her trip. Yes, that Anne.

And it was not surprising that Anne is a beautiful person inside and out. I was apprehensive meeting someone face to face, if only because I’ve become more of an introvert in my maturing age. But as soon as I saw Anne walking up to the restaurant, I felt immediately at ease and things only went uphill from there.

I felt like a true lady of leisure, dining on Crab Louis after an appetizer of Bardot’s famous goat cheese lollipops (to die for!) and engaging in a conversation that ran the gamut from a frank discussion about cancer to a giggle fest over gods know what but which seemed hilarious at the time.

Two hours flew by like nothing, and by the way, now I know why Europeans stay so svelte even with all the rich foods they ingest – taking time over one’s meal is the best weight control ever! I never thought a salad could fill me up so satisfactorily! Anne had the ceviche and she looked like she was enjoying as well.

We probably could have talked for more hours, but I had to beat the traffic back into the IE to make Aly’s final camp performance. So we exchanged goodies and bid each other adieu from the Bunny Gunner museum.

I had expected my Waterlogue prints and this gorgeous Chinese jacket she’d promised, but Anne surprised me with a couple of books, a TARDIS blue cardi and button up and a neon green Converse pencil case! I was overwhelmed and humbled by the unexpected largesse! I did say she was a beautiful person inside and out, right?

The best present, however, was Anne’s introducing me to the app that allowed her to make all that wonderful artwork during her trip and which, upon seeing in action for myself, I absolutely had to have. Because it lets me do stuff like this:

Expect more Waterlogues from me in the future – I’m having loads of fun playing! And thanks, Anne, for a truly amazing meetup! I may just be convinced to go to more of these as long as you promise to go with!

  1. Thank goodness for WP’s search. My blog’s Blogger search wasn’t cutting it (it’s terrible).
I couldn’t remember WHEN we had our meet-up and WHERE we ate! (I’m helping facilitate a group get together from my HS alma mater and thought that’d be a perfect place for the ladies).

I’m having an art show in Claremont that opens April 2!
In Bunny Gunner’s old space we met at, it’s now called SPACE CLAREMONT.
    Show is #myshittycommute
    20 Waterlogued truck butts.

I miss your blog posts SO MUCH!!!!!

  2. OMG! Anne was showing at Bunny Gunner? You know they are dear friends of ours, right? Aly looks so cute in that picture!

    • I dream of showing there! I’ve been in their group “All You Can Eat” shows. Someday a solo! Susie and Juan are sweethearts.

    • Anne is awesomesauce! And yes, those two do elevate any picture with their double whammy of cuteness, don’t they?

  3. Aww, I’m so happy and jealous that the two of you got to meet! Anne seems absolutely fabulous (as do you, my friend). I got to meet a blogger friend last summer and it was fun to spend time with someone who gets the whole blogging thing. Of course my real life friends are supportive but just can’t share the same enthusiasm. Anyways, maybe someday I will get to meet you 🙂

    • I know, right? And now that I realize it wasn’t harrowing at all, I’m eager to reach out to more folks! Hint, hint…

  4. Ha! I am the Waterlogue enabler! I should get a commission!
Thanks for a lovely writeup. We DID have fun, didn’t we? I want to kidnap you and bring you along for the grand Vancouver shebang. Oh well, maybe next time… Shall we next try a meetup with Glenda (So What to Twenty)? Artesia? Indian food and shopping? It would be FUNNNNNNN. And it’s where I get all those colorful hippie skirts (that hate me as much as the circle skirt) and my scarves!

  5. That second picture, with you and Aly and the inquisitive face of the dog poking into the frame, is wonderful (at least to a stranger)–the composition is perfect.

    • Why, thank you! I’ve always wanted to take an official photography class ever since my resident IT/photo guru guy at work complimented my natural “eye”. Your comment helps validate my innate talent. 😀

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
